    I'M CALLIN BS!!!

I'll let you know if he pulls the tag! 👍

    I'M CALLIN BS!!!

Absolutely - especially if my boy draws his Bonanza pronghorn tag. If we could time the tour during the hunt, we could even shoot one and take bets on the age of the buck once the tooth lab does the aging. sound good?

    I'M CALLIN BS!!!

did you read the article? They acknowledge differences from area to area: "Studies of pronghorn from Colorado north to Montana and Alberta consistently show pronghorn achieving a plateau in horn size by 2 – 3 years of age. Pronghorn in New Mexico and Arizona may have peak horn size later...

    I'M CALLIN BS!!!

That "somebody else posted it" happens to be arguably the most knowledgeable pronghorn outfitter in the country and the most respected conservation org around, but what do they know...right?!?!? I will take their opinion as "GOSPEL" over some yokel in the basin. Surprise, surprise though - I...

    I'M CALLIN BS!!!

Let's see your data from your own study - I am sure it is pretty reliable. Should I take the word of a plumber out in the basin or the word of the two guys that know more about trophy pronghorn than anyone else on this planet? To add to that, here is a bit from the Boone & Crockett website -...

    I'M CALLIN BS!!!

Bess - you are entertaining and this place would not be the same without you, but I think I am going to take Eli and Tony Grimmett's word on antelope over yours. No offense intended :ROFLMAO:

    antler growth 2024

Condition of the animal is probably more important than moisture. Animals were hammered through the tough winter of 2022-2023. They should be in great condition coming out of this most recent winter. Groceries do matter though

    antler growth 2024

should be a banner year this year with wet/mild winter and good moisture through the spring thus far- of course I have very little chance of drawing a tag.

    I'M CALLIN BS!!!

Well Bess - this buck below was killed by the preeminent outfitter for Pronghorn (Eli & Tony Grimmett) and they guessed him to be 3 years old. The buck scored 90". Pretty well known that Pronghorn are much different than deer and elk and reach maturity at age 2-4. I know you don't like facts...

    Mule Deer Proposal

Thanks - I agree with you that Preference Point systems are the worst by far. I am not sure how I feel about the all random approach - has some merit for sure. I do think Utah's 50:50 BP/Random approach for LE/OIL is the best compromise of all the systems out there currently.

    Mule Deer Proposal

I'm genuinely curious in understanding your thoughts on the best approach or system to manage "species where the number of hunters swamps the number of available permits"?

    PP/BP or random

    Wrong
  22. elkhunterUT

    PP/BP or random

If a point system is required, I think Utah's system is the best overall: 50/50 Bonus point/Random

Should Governor Type Tags Exist? (Poll)

Draw or raffle tags only (no more Auction or Governor tags) and those hunts should not be a year long. I personally think these hunts should be slotted in already existing seasons/units or maybe have a minor advantage of a week or so, but nothing crazy. The auction and governor tags bring too...

    elk question

100% true and a reality on the mid-season hunts. My son had a mid-season tag on the Wasatch last year and it was a zoo for sure. That being said, if you have the points and can hunt the Beaver unit now (on any hunt), I would get on it quick. The unit is large and getting away from other...

What midseason or muzzy hunts can you draw with your NR points?
  27. elkhunterUT

    elk question

Pahvant or Monroe archery are best bet for a 350+ bull if only considering those 4 units and hunts, IMO. Bulls that size are not as common any more on those units (or any units for that matter with possible exception of Beaver, Boulder, and San Juan). I hunted the Pahvant on the muzzy hunt in...

WILL YOU??? HAVE YOU??? WILL YOU NOT??? SELF REGULATE???

The last deer I killed in Utah was in 2014 on a general muzzy tag on the Boulder unit (have killed several deer in Colorado and AZ since then). I am way past the point of "needing" to kill a deer, but I couldn't care less about what other hunters do that have a tag and do it legally...

    Would you take the shot?

Wait him out until he stands and hope the wind doesn't change. The bedded shot is too risky at 58 yards IMO.

    Wildlife Board Workshop

You are 100% right on that one - though the "guiding" "controlling" and "owning" in Utah comes from one source...SFW and other special interest groups . Until that changes, Biologists can only do so much.

Who has eaten BHS and your thoughts

I have loved the meat from my Utah bighorn sheep. The tenderloins were some of the best wild game meat I have ever had. Definitely put it in the top 3 of wild game meats for me (Sheep, Pronghorn, Elk)
