    What's He Score?

I may not be understanding you, but I don't even have a tag this year. Living vicariously. But if I am correct about the end of your post, I can expect some pics of your successful hunt. Looking forward to living vicariously through you.

Paul, That bull was shot with a rifle on State land 29 days after the video was taken. I assume it was scored but I do not know the score.

Valles Caldera - 6B Educate Me

You can scout the unit May-September. Check their website in case there happens to be a closure due to road conditions/fire, etc. They give out a number of back country passes each day. First come first served. This give you vehicle access to a limited number of roads. But you can hike into...

6b Valles Caldera Cow hunt. Anything I need to know before going?

I saw an earlier comment about camping at Banco Bonito on the Caldera. Currently, the Caldera is NOT allowing camping at Banco Bonito. If the National Forest closes the Jemez Falls Campground before your hunt, there is another camping spot close by on National Forest that is not too far from...

Camping in the Bernalillo to Cuba corridor?

All established campgrounds are currently closed. I would guess they will be closed by Memorial Day as well. (Honestly, Memorial Day Weekend in an established campground is my definition of hell) But if you have a vehicle with some ground clearance, we can probably come up with some spots you...

    Turkey hunting

Same with the hunt on the Valles Caldera. I can't access the Caldera through any of the normal access points. But I can jump the fence anywhere to get onto the Caldera. The problem is the forest service roads have not opened yet. So that limits me to the southwest portion of the Caldera...

    New Forest ORDERS

Ok. Yeah they have not opened up roads as quickly as in previous years. Even some of the road that have a sign indicating they will open April 15 have not opened. Just wanted to make sure there was not an actual order saying the roads were to be closed. I have also called and left a message...

    New Forest ORDERS

    Turkey hunting

BTW, this Order was issued on March 24. Having spent a good bit of time in the Cibola National Forest and Santa Fe National Forest in the past two weeks, and having waved at several Forest Service Rangers along the way, I can say that no one was being restricted, other than established...

    Turkey hunting

It is a very badly written Order. Words have meaning. And when the meaning cannot be accurately determined, the words become meaningless. For example, can you show me where it says ANY area is closed? Not restricted. Closed.

Anyone Hunted Turkey on the Valles Caldera?

Was fortunate enough to draw a turkey tag on the Valles Caldera. I have hunted the VC twice before for elk, so I am familiar with the area. Looking forward to a great hunt. Anyone else draw a turkey/bear tag?

    Good Multi Purpose rifle

I got my daughter a Savage Youth Model in 7mm-08. She loves shooting it and dropped her cow elk easily last year. Shoots great and she easily handles the recoil. Initially I handloaded soft loads for her to practice with. Now she just shoots full power loads.

    Javelina

There is a cap on the OTC Javelina tags. 1000 for any legal weapon and 300 for bow. But I really doubt they sold out already. Not sure why they are not showing up on the OTC section to purchase licenses. I would bet they add them to the website soon.

Butchers That Do Summer Sausage in NM?

Eagle Rock is my go to processor. But they only do green chile, Italian and breakfast sausage. No summer sausage. I have had Green Valley Meats turn some of my ground deer into summer sausage and it was pretty good.

    Montezuma quail

I go once or twice a year to hunt them. Usually see them between 6500 and 8500 feet. Scrub oaks on grassy side hills. Along dirt rods with scrub oak nearby. A dog can really help to find them. They will hold VERY tight and flushes behind you for birds you stepped over is not uncommon. So...

It's been a while since I looked at this issue, but if I remember correctly, when it was unlimited "tickets" up until you were limited to one ticket per hunt code, the money went to the preserve. But it was not private. The preserve had a mandate to become "self sufficient" within a certain...

Took my daughter out for her first turkey hunt. Hiked about a mile into our spot and got set up. Started to call and immediately got a response from several hens about 200 yards off. Sat quiet until we could see the flock coming in. There were about 20 birds, with at least 5 toms. Did some...

    Premier elk / deer tags

Headed up this weekend to Unit 17 to scout for my deer hunt. Anyone seen how the burn area is looking? Mostly thinking about the P&J areas between the flats and the steeps. Did it burn the area out? Is there growth coming back? Thanks for any help you can give. I know the area, just...

    Holy spider monkeys!

Interesting creatures for sure. Ran into a lone male in 17 in a canyon with some water. Much more distinctly marked than the female in your video. I have seen videos of large groups of them and they don't seem shy at all. Came right up to the hikers and were checking them out.
