Paul, That bull was shot with a rifle on State land 29 days after the video was taken. I assume it was scored but I do not know the score.

Same with the hunt on the Valles Caldera. I can't access the Caldera through any of the normal access points. But I can jump the fence anywhere to get onto the Caldera. The problem is the forest service roads have not opened yet. So that limits me to the southwest portion of the Caldera...

Ok. Yeah they have not opened up roads as quickly as in previous years. Even some of the road that have a sign indicating they will open April 15 have not opened. Just wanted to make sure there was not an actual order saying the roads were to be closed. I have also called and left a message...

Where did you hear the forest roads in the Jemez were closed? That could be a problem.

BTW, this Order was issued on March 24. Having spent a good bit of time in the Cibola National Forest and Santa Fe National Forest in the past two weeks, and having waved at several Forest Service Rangers along the way, I can say that no one was being restricted, other than established...

It is a very badly written Order. Words have meaning. And when the meaning cannot be accurately determined, the words become meaningless. For example, can you show me where it says ANY area is closed? Not restricted. Closed.

Was fortunate enough to draw a turkey tag on the Valles Caldera. I have hunted the VC twice before for elk, so I am familiar with the area. Looking forward to a great hunt. Anyone else draw a turkey/bear tag?

I got my daughter a Savage Youth Model in 7mm-08. She loves shooting it and dropped her cow elk easily last year. Shoots great and she easily handles the recoil. Initially I handloaded soft loads for her to practice with. Now she just shoots full power loads.

There is a cap on the OTC Javelina tags. 1000 for any legal weapon and 300 for bow. But I really doubt they sold out already. Not sure why they are not showing up on the OTC section to purchase licenses. I would bet they add them to the website soon.

Eagle Rock is my go to processor. But they only do green chile, Italian and breakfast sausage. No summer sausage. I have had Green Valley Meats turn some of my ground deer into summer sausage and it was pretty good.

I go once or twice a year to hunt them. Usually see them between 6500 and 8500 feet. Scrub oaks on grassy side hills. Along dirt rods with scrub oak nearby. A dog can really help to find them. They will hold VERY tight and flushes behind you for birds you stepped over is not uncommon. So...

I won't be. Might put my daughter in, and get a youth encouragement tag when she doesn't draw. In reading the proclamation, it indicates quotas apply. How will the quota apply when there is only one tag for each hunt code?

Interesting creatures for sure. Ran into a lone male in 17 in a canyon with some water. Much more distinctly marked than the female in your video. I have seen videos of large groups of them and they don't seem shy at all. Came right up to the hikers and were checking them out.
