@elkassassin , this IMO is the problem with tag cuts. We fail to look at what cutting opportunities does to the mental aspect of hunting. When you can't draw for multiple years, the "pressure" to hunt harder, not go empty handed, etc is a lot different than when you know you'll be back next...

Never been, but I have a spring tag for UT. Planning on running dogs. But will also try some spot and stalk.

Looking at their sample sizes across ages, I would say the avg was 5 years old

A study was done on more than 4500 deer between 5 western states. The average deer only reached 171" and required to get to 6 years of age to reach that avg.

There are always the anomalies. Here is one of mine. Back on Halloween of 2018 while looking at deer I noticed a white faced deer. Confident it was a buck I put my spotter on him only to find he had no antlers. I've found sheds on the particular hillside before so after he left I went hiking...

Nothing I love more than extra regulations, extra fees, etc. This slippery slope is getting out of hand fast. But what did we expect with the amount of complaining we do.

We went 1 for 3 in filling tags. My boy ended up harvesting his first buck, a forky, on Friday. He was super excited and it made the trip totally worth it. Most years those forky's felt like a rarity, but not this year. Lots of young bucks. A few nice ones on private still bachelored together...

I have nothing against giving APR a try. The two caveats I have are: 1. It should be coupled with tag increases. 2. Youth tags should be exempt.

I know of 2 people in the last 2 weeks (same unit even) that have saw one while hunting. Both stated if they just would have had a tag they would have shot it. The word still needs to get out about this.
