Me - besides fish, mostly bottom rocks and logs. A good friend once caught a seagull who promptly took off, flying in big circles before the hook was final jerked loose. My brother caught a bat in the webbing between its legs - that didn't end so well for the bat.

I'm a stone thrower every couple of years. Mostly flush out in a day or two. A couple required hospital visits, including adventure like feddoc's, but without the pre-removal alcohol. Twasn't fun.

I would say remember to enjoy the adventure, but you obviously have that well covered. Good luck!

I tried to ship a rifle stock to a dipping place several years ago. Nope I was told, nothing rifle related. FedEx - no qualms.

Elk aren't one of the majors in Glacier, although I have seen them occasionally on the west side of the park, pretty near the entrance. Pretty much guaranteed to see mountain goats on the Hidden Lake trail on top of Going to the Sun (and bighorns if you take some time to glass). I assume...

Two years ago, I had the pleasure of leading a bunch of our Boy Scouts on a trip through Normandy - we actually camped at the caretakers yard at American Cemetery. In the evenings, we would go down to the beach and the boys would play along the shore, wading, or tossing a football or a Frisbee...

Great book - very up-to-date (2012) pictures as well! Picked mine up in person at the WSF just yesterday, even got it signed by the author. The B&C folks said they just got the books 2 days before. Probably should ship shortly.

Thanks to those who have replied. I hope to see you up there Reactor - with bulls in the backs of both our trucks. I was up there last weekend, mostly just getting familiar with the area. I did see a lots of deer and one moose (cow), but no elk. Did a little hiking in some good looking areas...

I believe Kearl Ranch Outfitters (Clint Kearl/Greg Wamsley) take most of the successful Meadowville elk hunters. A 400"+ bull came off their place last year and just yesterday I saw a trail camera picture from their place of a developing bull that looks like it will be at least as good.

Check you datum settings against the maps and GoogleEarth. Sometimes the GPS settings are on NAD27, when, I believe, GoogleEarth and newer maps are on WAGS84...refers to when the coordinates were developed

Having spent a fair amount of time hunting the Aldo Leopold wilderness down there, I have some first hand knowledge of the area. I would have to say the Laney operation severely overgrazed the grasses and tore up much of what little riparian habitat is down there. It just got worse and worse...
