    OnX question, Walk in areas

On my recent hunt, I used OnX to navigate public land. I loaded an offline map that captured my entire hunt area. It was only when I got out there that I realized I wasn't seeing the Walk In Areas on my phone. Back at the computer now and see the WIAs just fine, but not on my phone. Is there...

    Antelope Regular vs. Special

My approach has been to get the best tag I can get in the Special draw. It's expensive, but if you're flying across the country, eating, lodging, waiting years for points, etc. it seems like the extra money is a way of maximizing your opportunity on what's already an expensive trip. On the...

    Antelope area 73

Quick report back. Thanks for all who provided advice. Hunt proved to be more of a challenge than expected, but a great hunt nonetheless. Antelope were harder to find in many places than I expected. At times drove for an hour+ without seeing an antelope...at least it was pretty country...

Thanks for the input, folks. We'll only have 3 full days to fill 3 tags so hoping for good weather. So far the forecast looks good.

    Antelope area 73

Two weeks out from my trip to 73 for lopes. What's the smoke like out there? I know it's been dry. Any thoughts on this area that haven't been shared yet? I'm starting to get exited although keeping expectations modest.

    Roads and access questions

Need somebody to dumb down this issue for me a little. In trying to scout via OnX or HuntStand, etc. it's easy to see where the public land is. However, often times you have to turn off the highway onto a smaller road that crosses through private to get to the public. Trying to figure out...

    When are tags mailed?

Been a while since I've done this. Want to make sure I'm not behind or missed my antelope tag in the mail. When do they normally go out?

    Pronghorn hunt

Those seem like light bullet weights for the respective calibers. Seems like 150 for both would give you better stability and less affected by wind.

    Antelope area 73

Yeah, I've heard the bad news about the herd in that area recently. The good news, I guess, is that the quota is 25% lower this year, so maybe fewer hunters will help our chances. Also, my understanding was that the adults in the population are doing ok, but last year's fawn crop suffered due...

    Antelope area 73

Thanks for all the good info! Quick question regarding lodging. I currently have a reservation at the Red Butte Ranch, near Bessemer Bend, west of Casper. I don't think this is the ideal location for accessing 73 as it's the wrong side of town, but I like the place and they had space...

    Antelope area 73

Thanks for your feedback, folks. Current plan is to make it a September 21-25 hunt. Miss the opener but get out of dodge before the weather gets too squirrely maybe. I think most of the BLM is in the northern part of the area; is that where you'd concentrate your efforts?

    Antelope area 73

Hunting antelope in 73 this year. First time hunting this area. Heard from some that numbers are looking bad there and others say I'll be ok. What do y'all think? Any feedback welcome.

Thinking 73. What's the outlook now that winter's behind us?

    Antelope 32, 73, 81, 87?

Leaning toward 73. Would welcome any input on that selection before I apply. Is it like a 45 minute drive from Casper to get to the main blocks of BLM in the northern part where I assume most of the hunting will be?

    Antelope 32, 73, 81, 87?

Thanks Dman and Muley. Still thinking on this one. 32 and 73 should be pretty straight-forward for me since I've been to Casper before to hunt 47. The other units mentioned have caught my attention, but would be branching out to new territory and towns (Cody and Pinedale). Anybody have...

    Antelope 32, 73, 81, 87?

Considering Antelope Areas 32, 73, 81, 87. Anybody have first hand experience (good or bad) with these? Feel free to PM if preferred. Lodging access is a consideration as camping with my dad is probably not an option.

I thought the East side was where the BLM was. Anyway, curious to see how his hunt works out. I was pretty shocked to not draw that tag myself. Good luck.

The antelope tag I applied for went from 100% last year to 0% this year at my point level. Glad I didn't make any reservations. Frustratingly, couple of the other tags I considered actually got easier to draw this year but I didn't see that coming and picked wrong. Looks to me like the price...

    OnX phone app

Still wondering if you need the $30 app, or if the free one is ok, to tell you if you're on private land or BLM. Also, I'm specifically interested in WY and it appears that WGFD has an app that might be sufficient as well?

    OnX phone app

Do you need the $30 app to tell if you're on private vs. public, or will the free one do that?
  27. WillHunt

    OnX phone app

I don't have this app but interested. Someone said the free app doesn't indicate land ownership. Does this just mean it doesn't give landowner names, or it doesn't even show if you're on public vs. private land? I need to know if I'm on BLM or on somebody's ranch, but don't necessarily need...

    Antelope in 81??

I've also been thinking about 81. Read in a past thread a comment about crowded conditions, but very few details were given. Any thoughts on this unit as far as overall quality experience for someone just wanting to hunt some pretty country and have opportunities at decent bucks? Or is it a...

    BLM map question

So, they don't do these anymore? This was very useful because you can print this out, circle all the units that you can draw, and use your eyeballs to compare the relative coverage of public land among units.

    BLM map question

So, the BLM's website used to have hunt area maps that also showed color-coded public land coverage. BLM land was yellow, Forest Service was light green, etc. Now, when I pull up, for example, the WY antelope hunt area map on the BLM's site, it doesn't show the public lands coverage like it...

    Hunting antelope without burning points

So...I'm looking into options for hunting buck antelope DIY while continuing to build preference points. I'm nonresident and have hunted WY before. Am I correct in thinking the only way to do this is to draw on a 2nd choice (or lower) in the random draw? My thought is that I should consider...

    reattaching antelope horns

I've read on here somewhere to use Bondo to reattach antelope horn sheaths to the skull. Can't find the thread now. Is there a particular type of Bondo to use, or a technique? Also, my horn sheaths smell (inside and out). What's a good way to get rid of that smell?

    Lodging for Antelope 47

Booked 2 rooms with Ruth at the Red Butte Lodge. I feel encouraged after talking to her. We haven't finalized plans yet (I guess nobody has, since the app period is still open) but will likely fly into Denver and rent vehicle there. Unless flying to Casper costs less than I think it does...

    Lodging for Antelope 47

Flying in and hunting with old people is why camping isn't on the table right now. Possibly after more discussion, we could change our minds, but seems like it would add a major logistical consideration to camp. Main concern about the Virginian is the train that supposedly is very disruptive...
