13 1/2 in buck with decent mass. He was the only herd buck I saw so I figured he was the best Buck available. Some dry country that looked like Mars with gas wells everywhere.
Reading the Mt fish and game web site, Is it my understanding that if A nonres does not take the archery class in Mt, you can not get a archery elk tag?
Not one person here seem to know that two years of winter kill has turned a great unit into a terrible hunt. I drew one of the random tags with 2 pts last year and it was a big bust. The unit needs a few years to recover. Did get a long shot on a 160 in buck thou.
Third day of the 1st rifle tag in a nasty canyon. He was by himself recupurating from a nasty fight. The right should was torn up. I did could not use the hide.
Spent some time in Strawberry a few yrs back and the bulls were very vocal on the west side of town. Quite a fee water holes in the wilderness area turn up some nice bulls too.
I would get there 4 days early and find the elk. They seem to move around year to year. Suppose it will depend on the moisture. I shot a 317 in bull on the sw part of the unit two yrs ago. They were bugling all night long. You will enjoy that tag. Congrats!
