Lets see your New Zealand hunts

A buddy of mine and I went 4 years ago on a DIY backpack on public land for tahr. It was a pretty incredible experience. We spent three weeks on the South Island, with a four day hunt. We took the wives as well. Vacation if a lifetime. I hope to one day draw a bighorn tag, but figured this was a...

First Lite Customer Service = GARBAGE

I will chat with customer service once the staff is back in the office for the holidays. Sorry to hear about that. I agree with the above statements, and the obsidian foundrys holdup much better. I usually use the corrugate guide pants for archery elk. Very durable. I think I am the only FL...

    Greater Idaho

Is there anyway we just cut the Boise area out of Idaho and add it to Oregon? I am way more support of that.

Tick tock when will the draws post

Seems like Wyoming and Idaho usually hit the same week. Except last years July 1st. That was a long wait

    anyone shooting bears yet?

I had a buddy get a nice boar in 32 a couple a couple weeks ago. I saw my first bear in central Idaho this week. Looked like a sow. Lots of snow still but they are starting to pop up.

IDFG -- NR Licenses & Tags on Sale Dec. 1

With the amount of snow piling up out there, it’s probably a good thing you shot the two point. Most of them will be dead in a creek the next few months.

    Idaho Sawtooth Planning

People radiate out from Boise and inherently don’t want to drive far. Anything sub 3 hours from there is not much of a wilderness experience

Out of box most accurate hunting rifle.

I got a new savage 110 ultralight this last year. It’s a dream to carry in the mountains and shoots extremely well. Plus a proof carbon barrel right in your price range. I am sold on mine

    49 late cow

How do you carry water into a hunt?

I use a camelbak water bladder in September and switch it up to a nalgene once it starts to get cold. There are few things worse then freezing up your tube on a camelbak. I also have been using the katadyn BeFree water filter. Super light and quick to use. Packing less water and filing up has...

    bugle report

I think that early September rut action is always hit and miss. It could be one draw or canyon is hot, and the next one over has bulls feeding together. I spent the first few days struggling to get into elk with only a couple bugles. Then on September 6th I found a hot bull and had him down by...

    44-2 Doe Antelope

    Would you shoot a calf?

I had an archery elk hunt that was down to the last day a few years ago. I was tailing a herd moving through the trees when I encountered a lost calf. I gave a little call and suddenly she was standing 3 yards from me. My arrow had barely left the rest by the time it was through her. It was the...

    Dogs in Wolf Country

Here's an article from a few weeks ago talking about the shooting. I'm no wolf expert but that husky looks like the most obese wolf ever! Poor dog https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2021/jun/16/camper-shoots-injures-idaho-familys-dog-after-mist/

    Dogs in Wolf Country

I honestly would be more worried about people thinking your dog is a wolf and shooting it. Put some bright colors on it. A local husky was shot twice on a backpack trip a few weeks ago after wandering into the wrong camp.

    Wolverine

Here's one a buddy and I saw in Idaho a few years ago. He got the sweet photo. It was a really cool experience to only be 20 yards from the critter at 10,000+ feet. It honestly made me a little worried. I picked up a rock and was happy he ran away from us!

I would think they just get landowners tags anyways. Plus they can file a depredation claim and score millions.
