    Points are Points

If they simply added them or averaged them it would dramatically over value the general points and undercut the value of limited points already obtained. BAD idea. Keep the draws seperate. It would be fine to only allow you to apply in one or the other if they absolutely must make a change.

    Muzzleloader Draw Odds

Probably not... only thing that would happen is the flintlock and roundball sellers would have slightly better year. I'd be HAPPY to only hunt flintlock for the rest of my life if western states would put that rule in and offer me tags! And I have never even shot one!

Two NM tags in two years, including a OIL? I hardly think you need any help here, you are plenty lucky. Congrats on the soon to be new addition.

Animals are tough muthas… their immune system is unreal. Humans are unfit for survival and die from a stubbed toe by comparison.

MOST UNUSUAL CATCH ON A FISHING ROD???

Oh yeah, I’ve been caught a couple times… fun hospital or urgent care visits. Also have hooked a seagull off a pier in SC. Snapping turtle. Water snakes. But the best was when an alligator went after my spinner bait ( in SC again, what is it with SC?) and of course broke my line. Well…...

    Walleye

How do you catch these things! I have a major river near me that “supposedly” holds many, but for the life of me I have no idea how to catch them intentionally, fishing from shore. I have caught 1 or two over the years while fishing for other species. Some guys clean up on large walleyes in the...

New Hunter Looking for some Guidance

Don’t hunt out of season or without a license. Don’t shoot recklessly or put people at risk. other than that, if you are legal, hunt whatever floats your boat. and sort of like fishing, hunting can always be catch and release until and unless you decide to pull that trigger.

    Spill the Beans

Only 2nd choices for all, Elk/Deer/Antelope. This one hurt, since I am finally in the zone for a desirable elk tag with my points level. But couldn't take the chance of a double elk draw with NM. I likely set myself back a few years in CO now, and maybe will never catch up again. Hope that isn’t...

    Utah NR shed hunting ban

saw from an article regarding Wyoming… same issue though: Staeben “certainly believes — and I concur — that the [Game and Fish] commission, the department, did not have statutory authority to create a license to collect antlers,” Nesvik told the taskforce on Wednesday. “They believe that it’s...

I’m not sure it is the same but that is just a gut feeling, past the limit of my actual legal knowledge on who owns what on fed lands.

    Antelope 63-2

I am sure you would do fine in 63. I was out that way last fall. Definitely less antelope than there were in 2020 (also following a tough winter) but I bet you have no problem finding some animals to hunt. Terrain varies, which is fun, and antelope can be found low or high (mid).

    Utah NR shed hunting ban

How does any state regulate what can or can’t be picked up and collected off of federal lands, by whom, and when? once these are considered objects and no longer wildlife owned/held by the state, sounds like the feds would be the ones with jurisdiction, no?

    Idaho Bear River (75/78) elk

Hunted it a few years back, same story as several of the others. Tough hunting. Found sign, didn’t lay eyes on an elk. Started to feel that the elk behave more like deer over there, silent, stealthy, mostly nocturnal.

.270 130 gr. Sciroccos - Good elk medicine?

If 270 is bare minimum, a lot of other calibers are gonna be out in the cold. I’d use a 270 ( with good bullets) confidently! Short actions like .308, 7mm08, 260, 6.5 come to mind. I’d hunt elk with any of those with relatively few concerns, choosing my shots responsibly. I think the 243 and...

Would you take the 56 yard shot?

This is a tough one cause there really is a good quartering away path through the vitals here. But It’s about a 4” window. Obstructions above and below. Long distance, alert buck that might jump. No for me. But at 25 yards, this one I’d probably thread it.

Would you send an arrow at this one?

Ok 2 serious questions: 1) Yes I know a broadhead can penetrate a shoulder blade regularly, and pretty easily (for a fixed blade at least) at 90 degrees. But doesn’t a raking angle on flat bone give more ppl pause? 2) What do people say about hitting the humerus/ball joint?

Would you send an arrow at this one?

The only two reasons I don’t take these chip-shot heart shots are because my local deer are too fidgety and plus I am apparently a crappy shot and a coward (so maybe 3 reasons). Otherwise, highly recommended, but only on really big bucks that might get away if you don’t try. Otherwise, dumb...

And sad as it may be, airing out your specific strategy when chasing units with only a tag or two probably doesn’t help you. Hey Zim, very sorry to hear about your worsening health problems. Your attitude about it makes me feel like a whimp! What do you think it would take for region G to come back?

not exactly apples to apples with THOSE species vs elk, antelope & deer! But it is obviously true, WY residents pay nonresident prices and are part of NR quota everywhere but home. Whatever those states choose to do.

Anyone remember when hunting forums were fun? Ahh, here’s to the good old days! For those who don’t, it’s a shame. Even Buzz used to be friendly. But things change, blame can be assigned in different ways. But forum society seems to track general society, and just isn’t the escape it used to...

Seems I might have hurt YOUR feelings, I’m fine. Maybe you were building on prior posts with your own dumb post, or maybe your dumb post was organic. Lowering Standards

I’m definitely a bird-in-the-hand kind of hunter. 1st day or last. I dream big like all hunters do, but would say 90% of the time fall far short of them. I know that holding out could pay off, to a more trophy-oriented hunter, but I am unable to life that lifestyle with the time and resources...

Muzzy bullets - Colorado Legal ?

No Excuses work great for me, 465 grain, out of a QLA Omega, around 75-80 grains 777 3F. Not a long range load (most conicals aren’t!)… but by the way it handled an elk, you could hunt Cape Buffalo with it probably.

I don’t agree with the 777 detractors. I switched from Pyrodex ages ago and see no need to ever change. I have never had a problem with opened containers going bad, and the “crud ring” issue dissapears when you get your load balanced (and DONT use magnum 209s…. use the lower powered...

Man some days I really regret having used max points on a short maybe 5 day archery hunt in 7 in 2010. I didn’t know jack about what those points were worth and I happily shot a cow on the last day. Great unit then still but tough for an ill-informed DIY guy. I’m still chasing a big bull...
