Im with Hoyt I just got back last night and saw a lot of bulls but not in the usual spots. In the canyons I always see a lot of elk I saw zero but in canyons I maybe see 1 bull I saw mult. Did see 3-4 330-340 type bulls and a lot of rags. It did seem like the rut started late and was off and on...

I would say about that. Both about the same

I really liked the Redledges area but found out during scouting you cant camp on that mountain. You can get closer to the top from the Blanding side but probably not the area you will hunt if you have horses. Also a lot of motorcycle trail riding that can definitely mess with the elk.

Ok shed and a really nice dead head with great mass. Both broken up

Found a stealth cam SD card on the Dark Canyon Wilderness trail head in the San Juan unit. Message me for info. Not much on it unless you are hunting spikes then its a honey hole.

Im 80% sure I will be in town this weekend. If anyone gets an elk down on the Wasatch and needs help give me a PM. Have pack frame and will travel. I could use the workout before my hunt.

Ill have to start a thread to see if anyone knows of a pack out service down there. Im sure guides etc are busy guiding and is not what they want to do but for the $ I would think they would. Will be solo and hate to get one down in a hole without some backup.

I walked some of the moto trails on the Abajos and was thinking no way would I want to ride the trails I walked with a pack and rifle. I think Ill just stick to hiking them but was curious if anyone takes advantage of them. Sounds a little out of my comfort zone.

Ive been down scouting a few times on the Ut San Juan elk unit. There looks to be a lot of single track trails for motorcycles. Has anyone scouted with a motorcycle or even used one for hunting down there?

Same scopes? I have both and have used both on goats but prefer the 7mm just because i have a better scope on it. If I had the same scope on my 270 I would probably use it.

It took 26 points for me. I drew the early rifle hunt. Been down once already just to check out the area. Hope to go down again soon to check out a few more areas.

Another one that is in the unit is Snow lake. Small lake but fun to fish.

Mill Meadow and Forsyth can be fun as well.

What is the best access to this area? Looks like you can get into that area via Monticello, Blanding and maybe just random roads off the 191 or 95. Or better options off the 211? Anyone with knowledge of the area willing to share?

Agree. That is a long time to wait for an elk. Cant wait to get started.

thanks for that Maxxy, Im really debating on trying to get a multi season tag and will be researching that this week. I agree that I dont want to wait that long and not hunt where and when I want. Its not only my age im worried about but would love to have my Dad with me who is pushing 80 now

Yes, but looks like Beaver only has 1 tag. San juan has 2 but looks to be between 6 or so guys. I might have to look into other units for the mult season to see if there are any with better odds. I just dont know if it would be better to hunt a lessor unit more or a San Juan type unit less.

Yes, been general elk almost every year and twice in Wyo. Helped on a few as well

I used to think I could pack anything out of anywhere. Now I might need to hire some horse help. My Dad is to old to help and my hunting partner passed away with the same points that I have. Crazy Ive been putting in for elk half my life. I sure hope this is the year. I'm sure there are others...

Im not sure if 101 or 102 could be drawn but those are fun units. Good access and a good amount of mid range bucks. 112 is a good goat area as well for scouting
