LAST EDITED ON Oct-17-08 AT 07:18PM (MST)[p]I killed my first elk (a 6x6) this past Monday in Colorado. He may not be a giant by most folks standards but he sure is nice to me!!

A special shout out to MuleyBuck009!! He was a fantastic guide on my hunt and I want to say that Atkinson Expeditions is a great outfitter as well!

Hi Jim -

Thank you for the kind words. I do realize it is an awesome bull but I was just referring to a lot of the 350+ bulls posted on here all of the time. I could not be more prouder of my accomplishment!!

I was actually hunting private land in Colorado but they are free ranging elk and you never know when, or if, they will be on the ranch. We just got lucky to have elk and we were able to put on a great stalk to the herd. Being a first time experience for me, there are really no words to describe the feeling!! You are right, I am hooked now!! :)

I've got a friend that had as many Co PPs as me and opted out of applying for the archery hunt I did this year. I took a bull similiar to yours, better sword and back forks, lil less on the brows.

We talked today and he was asking how many 350/350+ bulls I saw. When I told him the best was 330-340, he said he'd never waste his 14 points on that hunt. I asked him how many hunters, huntin the VERY best unit in the country he thinks takes a 350 bull. He told me he'd be disappointed with anything less. I feel sorry for him.

I hunted with my 73 year old dad, had close encounters with several 290-310 bulls, took mine @ 10-12 feet and dad said it was his best hunt ever. I have no regrets although I didn't kill the biggest bull on the mountain. I know I'm goin to Colorado in 2010 in an area I know that has boo-koo bulls but no quality. I bet I enjoy that hunt as much as I did the one this year while he's still earning points.

My point is that your bull is a good bull, you should be proud and I am happy for those that put a 350 on the ground too

Nice first Bull Scott, my first Bull was a spike 30 years ago and I couldn't have been happier, congrats.

very nice....congratulations to you...well done. thank you for the pics, too.

Congrats on one beautiful bull. That is a great bull for most of CO. I have hunted in Co for years and have killed 5 bulls but not one of them will break 300 but that doesn't mean that I am not proud of them all. You should be very proud of that bull because it might take a long time before you kill a bigger one.

Congrats on a very good looking bull! Theres nothing wrong with that bull at all and I assure you, 95-97% of elk hunters would gladly wrap their tag on him.c I know I sure would. Again congrats and thanks for sharing it with us....NM

Spencer,

Congrats on a great first bull, in fact it is a great anytime bull. I've come to the conclusion that too much emphasis has been placed on getting a monster and not enough on having a fun and productive hunt. It seems the more people get involved with only killing trophy's the less it has has to do with 'The Hunt'.

Thank you for all the replies and very kind words, fellas. Here are some more photos of "The Hunt". By the way, I was lucky to have my hunt filmed for the show "Living the Wildlife" which airs on the Pursuit Channel (Ch 611 on DirecTV). It may air later this fall but I will keep everyone posted.

Great job Spencer,a "trophy" is in the eye of the beholder
and if I was the holder I would be as happy as you look in the pic.
I'm lucky to live in a place with great bulls if you can draw
a tag,and even here that is a nice bull.hope to see more
pic's from years to come!!

Congrats man! That is a great bull and a trophy in anyone's book. Besides, that is a great first bull. Never forget that any elk is a trophy elk. Six point bulls are just bonus points, albeit great ones. You'll never forget that hunt or harvesting that bull.
