Spikes on LE Units

How about the DWR proposing that the LE units include spike tags??

BESS just think you finally draw your tag and you get to share your hunt with a couple thousand spike hunters, their wheelers and bugling nonstop.

Too bad we just didn't utilize the resource properly ain't it.

I hope it doesn't pass until I get my archery hunt. It will be tough enough to kill the bull of a lifetime, without being screwed up by another hunter trying to get on a spike or cow. Such is life, maybe I will switch to a easier unit and hunt the muzzleloader. We do need to kill more bulls to keep the herd balanced.

IMO killing spikes is NOT the way to balance the herd. A bull is a bull. Issue more LE tags and don't kill the baby spikes! There is no difference except the LE guy will be a lot happier and have a great bull to show for it. Why do we want to screw up a good thing? Leave the spikes alone!

Leave it to the Government to screw a good thing up. I guess they think as the economy goes so goes the herd. I'm putting in for muzzel next year. I have already seen a decline in the herd...big time in the last two years.

It wouldn't be to bad if they would have some control over how many spike hunters hunted each individual LE unit with some type of cap on spike tags per unit per weapon choice like a general spike tag draw by LE unit.

Seeing as it is a done deal--no doubt-- anyways maybe have some control over the harvest amount.

I do not like the idea at all when they could issue more mature bull tags on each LE unit instead of this idea.

bessy, pull your head out already! It isn't ww that is wanting this, it is an actual recommendation from the DWR for the upcoming RAC's. If this goes through, EVERY LE hunter will be impacted. Archers will get the worst deal since they would have to compete with spike/cow hunters while hunting their LE tag, all hopeful LE hunters will be impacted as this will LOWER the number of bulls recruited into the herd meaning FEWER bulls available to hunt meaning fewer LE tags being issued meaning LONGER odds of drawing a LE tag. You can thank close minded hunters that cry and wail every time the DWR tries to increase the number of mature bull tags. The DWR MUST by mandate lower the bull:cow ratios on many of the LE herds. We can either issue a pile of spike tags, or issue more mature bull tags with a higher percentage going to primitive weapons as to have a smaller impact on 'quality'. This is up to us, SHOW UP and voice your views at the RAC's!
