LAST EDITED ON Oct-24-08 AT 12:56PM (MST)[p]I know what he "scores" in terms of inches (regardless, he scores as a trophy in my book), but since it is kind of slow around here I thought I would throw this one out to see what numbers everyone comes up with. This is the bull I shot a couple of weeks ago down here in New Mexico. The story is under "A Good Harvest" over in the NM forum. Let's see your guesses on net and gross.

285-287 would be my guess tough to tell without a front shot tho the width could be anything from 30-40 inches.

g-1 16,16
G-2 14,14
G-3 5,8
G-4 8,12
G-5 6
Width 37??
Mass 55
Beams 45,49

When I die I'm leaving this world the same way I came in.......Accidentally!

Being a 5x6 he will score in the 270-285 range...

Great bull...

Aim small miss small!!!!!

How about 262 gross and 254 net? Nice looking bull anyway you look at it! WAY bigger than my "monster" this year...

Man, most of you guys were right in there given the pictures. Just goes to show that as with fish, some camera angles can make a critter look bigger than he is in real life. I'm still pretty stoked with this bull even though he doesn't "score" very high. Cool thing about this bull was that I weighed almost 86 lbs of boned out neck meat from him. Interestingly, his teeth were very worn and had the appearance of making him appear as if he had seen a few years and bred a few cows in his day. He was a herd bull and another hunter shot one of the satellite bulls from his herd immediately after I killed this guy that ended up being larger in antler (310"), but smaller in body. Interesting to see the differences in antler genetics/mineral output between bulls from the Southern part of New Mexico and Northen NM where I shot this dude. My Gila bull from last year netted over 100 inches of antler larger than this guy but ended up being smaller bodied and appeared to be younger (given my limited elk dental background).

Here's the actual scores:

Unofficial gross is: 275 7/8.

Unofficial net is: 254 1/8

Note. This bull's right antler was his weak side as it was 4" shorter than the left, had a broken off fifth, and only a 7 4/8" third.

Anway here's the closest guess/most honest hunters!

Mntman was the closest to the gross score with his guess of 271 3/4.

And, good old Curtis/Cookie was most accurate with his net score of 251 2/8. Not a bad guess considering the "monster" you knocked down this year dude! Just kidding, but we all know you and your family kill more big critters than the rest of us and besides, cows eat better than horns any day of the week.

So, if either of you guys are in my neck of the woods (Albuquerque) I'll gladly take you or meet you for some NM flyfishing or quail or duck hunting.

Good luck and shoot straight,

Cody

Not to split hairs, but my gross of 279 was actually closer than the 271 3/4 guess. Someday I might like the offer to join you on a fishing or hunting trip.

Once again, really nice bull, Congratulations!

Woops, you were right there EGE! Offer still stands for you too. Good call on the gross and catching my miss there.

Hey trout! Sometimes I get lucky!! That cow does taste mighty good too. Stinky is STILL givin' me grief over that one. Congrats again and I bet he still tastes mighty fine. Mine from last year surprised me. Field care is the key in my honest opinion.
