Lets hear how your bullet performed this year!!!

1. Caliber of gun, bullet type and grain
2. Shot distance
3. Entance and exit area's of the animal.
4. Entrance / exit size of holes
5. Were you satisfied with the bullet performance?

7MM Rem Mag, Rem. Model 700, sythetic stock, Leuopold 3x9 Vari-X II. Nosler 160 grain Partition at 2900 fps +/-. Shot was 200+ yds. at extreme downhill angle, bullet entered high on chest, passed through lower edge of spine and was found under the skin low on the off-side chest. Lead nose was wiped off but shank was intact. The broken 3X4 bull fell in his tracks. I'll take that performance every time.

Phantom Hunter

Ruger 7mm rem mag, 168gr. berger vld awesome b.c.(.643) shot several animals with it this year, deer and antelope, elk in past years, this year the bullets were usually found just under the skin on the opposite side bulets mushroomed perfectly. the bullets stayed in the animal so 100% of the bullets energy was delivered to the animal, I have used these bullets on elk as well and they have preformed great! I'm pushing these bullets @ 3120 fps out of a 24 in barrel and have been shooting them at the range out to 1000 yds. I'm usin a leupold mark 4 6.5x20 with a custom range compensating turret.

30/06 180 Nolser Partition.

Behind shoulder--entrance exit point of shoulder on the otherside.

Entrance was golf ball size-----exit looked like a 30 cal hole.

Cow elk took 2 steps & was out for the count. Top of her heart was gone.

Rifle was a Tikka, scope was a 6X Nikon Monarch. Shot distance was @ 125 yards.

Ammo was Federal Premium----plan on sticking with it.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-24-08 AT 04:37PM (MST)[p]Killed a 4x5 raghorn this year with my .270 WSM with a 130 gr Barnes TSX bullet. We called him in and he was facing directly toward me and was the only shot he presented. I have never shot anything directly in the center of the chest while facing me but I took the shot anyway because of the confidence I had in the legendary penetration of the TXS bullets. He only went 20 to 25 yards after the shot.

As we field dressed him, I was struck with how little damage there was to his vitals. The bullet definitely hit his lungs and he had massive internal bleeding, but not near the devastation that I expected from an elk that only made it 25 yards. My 16 year old son Tarrin also wanted to find the bullet to see what happened to it. We could see the entrance hole but no clear exit hole. So Tarrin set out to find the bullet. We could vaguely make out the bullet's path and it ended at a hole in the front of the stomach. My curiosity ended with the statement, "Well, I bet it is still inside the stomach." However, this did not damper his curious nature. I slit the stomach wide open for him, he donned the latex gloves and dove in. After about 15 minutes of playing in the soup, he comes running over to us with a big grin in his face! "I found it!", he said as my dad and I just laughed and shook our heads.

The 130 gr bullet had shed one petel and weighed 122 grains after traveling nearly the entire length of the inner cavity. It came to rest in the very rear portion of the stomach. I really like the new bonded bullets because that are cheaper than the Barnes and I feel that they are just as effective. But after trying all summer to come up with a good load, I was resigned to the fact that the Barnes TSX bullets are the only bullet that my gun will shoot accurately and consistently. These bullets do not have the explosive, jelly making effect of a traditionally constructed bullet, but so far, I can't fault their effectiveness. This was the second bull that I have killed with these bullets. So far, I am very satisfied with this bullet!

On the 3 elk hunts i guided this year......

.300RUM Christensen Arms Rifle 180gr Ballistic tips 200yd kill, performed flawlessly, looked like a home grown mushroom, one shot kill.

.300wby mag Weatherby Mark V rifle 205 yd kill 180gr Scirroco, performed flawlessly again.

.300 Jarret Jarret rifle 435 yd kill 200 gr Nosler Partitions, 3 bullets to bring him down, but we got 'er done.

300RUM Remington sendero with mark 4 6.5-20 using 175 grain bergers. pushing it at 3400fps. Did very well on an antelope this year at 400 yards. Hit him a little back the first shot, and hit him again at 400 just behind the shoulder. Overall I was happy but will give it another go on a coues hunt this december.

The animals that you shot with the VLDs, did they drop or was there trailing involved( assuming they were chest shots)

300 Wthby 180 grain Accubond with 84.5gr of IMR 7828

506 yds First shot in chest busted rib on opposite side and stoped in hide, entrance size quarter size. Second shot, in spine at base of skull...bull was faceing away still at 506+- yds, destroyed 3 vert at base of skull....very satisfied.

Also dropped my Mt Goat this year with same set up at 460 yds quarter away high spine. Entrance was quarter size and exit was "big" behind oposite shoulder and she never moved...other than rolling 20-30 yds down.

Oh yea and high spine on doe antelope this year took out....like gone....4-6 inches of her spine...no ent or exit to look at!

It's all part of the experience!!!!

TC Encore 50 Cal. Muzzleloader
90 Grains Blackhorn 209 Powder
Hornady SST Lowdrag Sabot 300 Grain
I used these Bullets for my LE Elk Muzzleloader hunt this year, during the summer I shot a bunch of these at the range and they shot far better than any Muzzy bullet I have tried. The shot I made on my Bull was at 179 yards and it dropped him in his tracks. The entrance was in his left shoulder quartering away and it didn't exit, the bullet was in the his on the opposite shoulder. The entrance hole was 3/4". I am not real satisfied with the performance because the bullet came apart, picture attached....

There's room for all of God's creatures, right next to the mashed taters and gravy.

30-378 Weatherby round through a Sako M995 with a Leupold VX-III 4.5-14. I shoot Barnes TTSX 180 grain bullets at 3450 fps. I shot an Antelope at 600 yards I shot twice both shots hit a little forward. First shot entered in front of the front shoulder exited in front of far shoulder about 1 inch exit. Second shot hit 6 inches further back through both front shoulders could stick my hand into exit. The goat took 1 step after first shot and fell instantly on second shot.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-26-08 AT 05:47PM (MST)[p]My wife had a Elk tag. She used a Thompson center Omega, 150 grains 777 pellets, Thompson center shockwave bonded, 250 grain bullet. At about 75 yards. One shot and the bull only took about 2 steps and was down. We found the bullet in the far side hide. The gun and bullet performed very well.
