I drew the 2B early hunt from Oct. 29th thru Nov 2nd. I have never hunted this unit. I do have the time to scout this summer and plan on taking this hunt as serious as it can be taken, given the competition that will be around with the large number of tags available. Can anyone give any generalities, numbers of deer, or starting points on the unit. I'm not looking for secret spots just a starting point if your willing to share. Thank you in advance. It is much appreciated. You can P.M. me if you like if you would like to be more discrete.
Sincerely, Panhandle

Hey Panhandle,
I wish you luck on your hunt. I lived in Farmington , NM for a lot of yrs. so I know that unit very well was a time when it was overrun with muley's you could find them just about anywhere in the unit. Now who knows? The prolonged drought has caused most of them to migrate to Co. and unless it snow's early and hard that's where most of them will stay. I drew that tag last year and did'nt even see a deer the whole time I hunted. Was hot and dry. Game Warden told me what I already knew and what I just relayed to you. I would say that finding a water hole and sticking with it will be your best bet.Go early and scout hard. Also stop at the ranger station in Bloomfield and ask lots of questions they will be more than glad to help you out.

In the Carson NF, most of the spur roads leading to well sites are gated, so a mountain bike is useful.

you wont see much that early unless it snows early, if it does then it should be a good hunt
good luck

Thank you all for the personal messages and for your replies. At the very least I have some great information and some starting points for scouting. Thanks, Panhandle.
