Has anyone hunted with Big Sky Outfitters out of eastern Montana. Im thinking of going on a combo hunt for deer and elk and I want to get some info about their operation and what class of animals I can expect. Any info would be helpful. Thanks, Steve Wisz

The largest bull elk i have ever encountered was about 12 miles south of Melstone MT on Knapp Road. Those eastern Montana bulls can get big. You need to find them.

For starters, you better get on the phone with their references. Is this for 2006?

LAST EDITED ON Jun-27-05 AT 05:19PM (MST)[p]I knew a guy who guided for them and he said they were a quality outfit. They are not a Montana based outfitter they are based in Washington state. Get references and more importantly find which one of their ranches they are booking you onto. That will be a big indicator of what kind of trophy potential you are looking at. Also if you are thinking rifle hunting for bull elk you may still need to draw. Even the Outfitters cannot get set aside tags for bulls in many areas of Eastern Montana. Archery is a different story.

Wiszard,

I hunted with Big Sky Outfitters our of Forsyth, MT a few years back. If this is the same group you are looking into, Sam Borla is a GREAT man with some incredible animals and top notch guides. The food is incredible, and the facilities are great too. I am going to head back that way some day, however for now I am hunting new areas. I would give a thumbs up to Big Sky Outfitters. Oh, I hunted speed goats, and did not get drawn for deer, however he has some great access to deer country!

I appreciate all the info guys. I called Dale, the owner, and he seems like a great guy. It is a draw for elk and antelope so it all has to work perfectly. Ill put in for the draw for next year and see what happens. I did ask for references and he didnt have a problem with that. Hopefully things will work out. Again, I appreciate all of the info!! Good luck hunting this year to all of you.
