What does he score?

I've been watching this bull for a few days after he disappeared a month ago. I have an idea of what he scores, but now I'm second guessing myself. I'm admit I'm rather new to this bull elk hunting thing. He's absolutely a shooter in my book and I hope to get 'er done starting Saturday, but what do you think he scores?

Hard to say with photos but I would guess a bit lower. 340's. About how wide is he?

Easily 190 and 30 wide!! oh wait. Thats a different animal. I would say around 330. If he looks good to you put him down. Do you have a late utah tag that starts saturday? If so good luck.

Looks like somewhere between 340 to 350. I would shoot for sure. Nice looking bull. Hope you get him, good luck.

That's where I am too - he is a good looking bull! I would be really pleased with him!
Good luck to you on Saturday! If you need help packing him out - PM Slamdunk!

Apollo, good luck he's a fine bull !!! Here's a photo of a 316" bull we took last year, his 3rds are 13" that's very similar to the bull you have pictured but the browtines on this bull are longer. At any rate the picture you show does not over shadow this bull, it's a decent comparison! (grin)

A couple guys said 315-320. I agree with that guess.

I cannot see 330+ at all? Very nice bull and a good looking bull, nothing wrong with him, but not over 320 IMO.

419!!! oh wait he dont have quite the feet that the other dude in the pic had. uh my guess would be a gorgeous 340 class bull that will look amazing on your wall!

So somewhere between 315 and 352??? LOL. I have to admit, you guys aren't a whole lot of help. :)

I watched him again tonight and think he's closer to 340, but I'm no pro at this. For me, there's shooters and not shooters and to me he fits in the first category, though you guys now have me second guessing myself. I want to shoot a 340+ bull. I guess the best way to find out how big this one is will be to kill him tomorrow and put a tape on him.

Hopefully you prove everyone wrong and he goes higher than 340.

I am late but love to test my field judging abilities so I am going to guess 322 tops. Good luck.

I think he has some good beams and width. I hope the Put-down-your-dream crowd is wrong. I thought he was a little smaller than I said, but I don't know why these guys have to belittle a great animal. Send me a PM if you need help packing him out--I'm a local.

Did ya kill him yet, we are waiting.. I'm thik around that 340 mark hope you can get it done.

Hazmat,

I hope you aren't being serious...he asked for a guess on the bull's score and based on some far-away pictures, we guessed. That's all. No one "belittled" anything, we simply guessed. I hope I am way off...I usually under-guess everything, must be the conservative side of me. In no way am I a part of a "Put-Down-your-Dream" crowd. I was off by 40 inches on the bull I shot this year...on the low side as well, so I will be the first to admit I might be a little low. We'll just have to wait and see what he scores when he hits the ground...then we'll find out who's in the "Put-Down-Your-Dreams" crowd, and who's in the "Exaggerate-Your-Bull's-Score" crowd... :) (Just joking, of course...)

I'll have to 2nds Corey's comments, I in no way was being rude or meant it to sound that way. I'd take that bull in a heartbeat!! (grin) I just tried giving an honest & realistic evaluation as well as a visual comparison for my way of looking your bull over!
I hope you are fortunate enough to locate him during your hunt, we're all pulling for you!!!

I probably opened my mouth on this thread out of frustration over a lot of other previous threads. I just hate it when people pile on an animal that a guy is excited about...when you have a clearly (not like these rough photos) 350ish bull and some puke puts down 278. That's just being an arse. (Not directed at you. You make a good comparison). I probably always go a little high. Just like when the animal is in the back of somebody's truck and its a dink. If the guy's proud of it, give him props. On this bull, the pics are bad and I can't really judge the fronts or thirds that well. I think it looks wider and the beams look longer than the bull you posted, but it all comes down to when he hits the ground and if the hunter is happy with him.

I just guessed also on some grainy photos. No reason to not be excited about a 320. I hope he is 340 as well and I hope he puts him down and gets some ground growage. I am no pro at judging...he may be 340? I just guessed 320 on a good looking bull.

Hey, no problem! I agree the photos are grainy & a bit distant, heck it could be a 340 bull, hopefully he'll have the privilege of putting it down & sharing the score with us.

Every elk is a trophy in my book!!! Have a great day!!

apollosmith, I'd say 325 3/4", He looks to be very even. That'd be a great bull to get. With some "field photos" ;-) we'd get a lot better measurments from him!

Forget what he scores..If you have a good looking bull that will hang out in the same area for you all the time he must go down. Thanks to wyomings outstanding wolf program our bulls don't have time to hang in out in one spot. I would guess he is 330 to 340

just got back from apollos house i think this bull deceived us all because he was so far away in the photos absolutely a stud bull i will let apollo tell you what he scores we just pulled a tape on him and for those of you that thought his front end was weak just a side not 20"+ G2's and nobody is close to score congrats to apollo he worked his can off for this bull

Anybody care to readjust their score?

Full story, pics, and video coming soon. It's been a LONG day. I've had two people put a tape to him and both scores were higher than the highest guess here. Yes, the first original pics were terrible and from a mile away, but I guess it shows that sometimes it's just plain hard to judge an animal at a distance in the field.

By the way, width is 44 1/8. And elknut1, his "short" fronts are 19 and 20 inch G2's. :) I love how his fronts all line up.

Awesome bull! Congrats. The ole North Cache has done pretty well this year.

Sorry I underestimated your bull, even if I was the closest!!!!

Good job.

Man, beautiful bull! I love it when a bull grows as you walk up to him, rather than shrink! Congrats, and yes, I was definitely fooled by his size! What does he score, BTW?

Corey

Nice bull, way to prove everyone wrong.

I do, I do!!!! (grin) Awesome specimen there Biguy!!!! As someone mentioned up top photos are tough to score at times, especially distant ones! 357" is my new score!

Those fronts from your 1st photos look a whole lot longer!!! I think you shot the wrong bull??? (grin) Great job!!!!

ElkNut1

Oh yeah! Great bull! Definitely no ground shrinkage there! He has a lot more mass that was seen in the previous photos. Great length on the 1sts and 2nds - great swords and again the mass is awesome! Pretty good spread too!

Congrats!

Yesterday was probably the longest, most physically arduous day of my life, but at 5:30 this morning my mind was awake and ready to start looking for elk, though my body hurts like never before. And how many times do you have to wash your hands to get the smell of elk off them?

Yep, 357 is just about right. I'm getting several different measurements and will average them, but most of them go right around 360 or so.

I'm working on photos and video (including two different kill shot clips) now and will post them up later.

Cool post. I just opened this post, read it, guessed it and was within 5 inches..lucky, but super cool to guess and have it verified. Great post again.

By the way, I've had three separate measurements by three different people that score this bull over 370 gross. My own conservative measurement was 370 6/8. Score doesn't matter all that much to me - it was truly an experience of a lifetime taking this bull and sharing the experience with good friends, but I am pleased with my (and your) underestimating of this bull. :)
