I was reading a couple posts back about this area and it sounds like it isn't very good. Like a lot of other hunters i didnt draw a central tag so i got a NE. I have never hunted this area and am trying to find some good places to go. I dont want your secret areas(unless you want to give them to me LOL) I dont mind to hike and im not looking for a huge trophy just a nice decent MULEY. Can anyone help me out? Thanks

If it were me, I'd get as far back into the south slope as you can, or out around the Gorge.

The Heber, Tabi, Currant Creek, Hanna, Stawberry areas seem to get pounded harder every year.

What hunt do you have?

Rifle. I am taking my dad and two younger bros this year too. its the first time they have ever hunted so i am trying to find a spot that they can have the best opportunity to get a deer. Do you have any specifics that i could use?

My pick would still be out around the Gorge. Lots of thick timber, but quite a few deer. Plus there's some great fishing out there and it's one of the prettiest places in the state.

We get this topic every year, which unit is best? These areas get slammed by hunters so don't go there! With the snow last year we had more people on ATV's and four wheel drive trucks rather then being in the bush than any other year I can remember. I have hunted areas where there are small cities at the bottom of the canyons, and every year I tend to see more deer and elk than hunters. This reason is because if you can go the extra 1/4 mile in to the pines and aspen you will see deer and elk. Not just the usual yearling buck or bull, but more mature game. My advise to you would be find an area you like and explore, and get as familiar with the area as possible. One other hint, don't go back to camp for lunch, STAY OUT. I have seen just as many deer and elk during mid day hunt during the rifle season. I have seen this in every unit in Utah. You just have to be able to walk to that extra ravine or canyon.

If you'll shoot any buck, you might have a chance opening day. If you're looking for a 3-point or better, prepare to be disappointed.

Just got back from trip around the mountain so to speak, and didn't see much of anything, but it sure is pretty and green.

arch3614elk, never did get an email or message with your address. Let me know and I'll get a DVD off to you.

I'd love to see a pic of your NE buck from last year, sounds like a great one.

I may try to scrounge up a pic or two. My family has hunted the same general area for 80 or so years in the NE region. It's sad to see how it's been managed the last 20 years-or the lack there of. I think a combination of the drought, antlerless tags, ATV abuse, the Sept. muzzleloader hunt, and the extreem rifle harvest of last year will make for a crappy 2005 season.

Not to mention the continued loss of winter range in Wasatch county, and a list of other things that I could bore you with:)

That doesn't mean there wont be some good deer shot, but it could be a whole lot better. I think we can all agree on that.

Thanks for all your help. But after reading all the posts it seems like it might be better to just sit at home this deer hunt cause it sounds like it is going to suck! Well im not going to stay home thats for sure but hopefully it will be a more succesfull hunt than expected. Good luck to everyone
