Finally drew after 6 years. Going early with my dad. We have llamas to pack in with. Any suggestions about hunting Wyoming? I have only hunted Colorado and Idaho, first time for
Wyoming. Thinking of making a scouting trip in August out of Afton. Any suggestions on where to start?
thanks

I used to hunt out of Afton at the Swift Creek trailhead.
We used to rent horses and ride east then north.
Never took any monsters, but my buddy had a chance at a whopper.
The horses will get you in, but you still have to climb the nasty stuff.

You have to get above timber line to get to the big boys.Glass a lot and take lots of water. On a side note be careful with your llams around horses on the trails some times the horses go off....Devlin

I guess I got lucky, this year I put in for my first time and drew my first time for region G. I'm excited. Good luck.

Just checked the results for two of my hunting partners, as they had already drew tags with me and another for NV.
They were going to go back to Big Piney or so they think if drawn, but I have a surprise for them tomorrow.

They don't know the difference I guess from region G & H. They both got drawn for Region H and have no idea what they have done and where to go. I better bring my ear plugs tomorrow as the yelling will be loud and profane. LOL

Wait till the others hear about their screw up, they will be the joke of conversations for awhile.

I have always been the one to "check" all appl's before but since two of us did not put in, we were not asked to checked them over and this happens.

Thanks for the help. I know what you mean about the llamas spooking the horses, been packing with them since I was a kid. Usually if you just give the horses a lot of room on the trail everything is O.K. One other thing...is it hard to get away from all the outfitters in Region G? Maybe some places to avoid?

The great thing about our llamas packstrings is we can bushwack away from the trails real easy. You will be fine for sure. Look into going to Hoback Junction and backtracking along the south side of the Snake River..........

Call the forest service and find the areas that allow motorcycles and ATV's. Circle them on a map and avoid them. There are big bucks throughout the region, do your homework, pick a spot, scout it and good luck. Don't expect to be alone on the opener though if you go, it can be a real zoo.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-08-05 AT 09:30AM (MST)[p]Brian Well they got our tags for H so I hope there in shape. That is some steep country so be careful, real easy to get hurt back there.I wish them luck tho...Devlin

A couple years ago we drew Region G & had no idea where to start. We ended up contacting Double Diamond Outfitters & had them drop us off @ a spike camp. We had a great time, talk about some kick-arse country (STEEEEEEP)!! I dont have the maps w/me so I couldnt tell you exactly what drainage we were in, however none of us ever saw another hunter the entire week. Our group went five for five but no huge monsters, however one of our partners did harvest an awesome 7x8 w/ a lot of character (upper 180's). Unfortunatly we havent gotten drawn since, I cant wait to go back. Good Luck!
