Just recently I learned the MT FWP had proposed raising the 05 quota on antlered mule deer in 270 from 75 to 150. I know they voted on it last week but I havent heard the outcome? Does anyone know? Sure wish they would keep it at 75 OR LESS. Keeps it a good area, lets those bucks grow up.

bittersweet, As far as I know, that quota change was approved. I had a chance to chat with one of the biologists here in the Root, and he pretty much confirmed it when we talked months ago. That area is getting a lot of attention, but it ain't the only spot for a monster. I hope to put up pics of some bucks I am getting to know soon. It's a camera problem so far. mtmuley

Maybe I'll draw!!!!

I too wish they would leave it at 75, as the bucks are really coming into there own lately. I bet another 10 years of that and we'd be producing several booners a year......

Good Luck

I wish the quotas would have been left alone also. BUT, there are booners there in 270, and in other areas close by. You just have to know where to look, and have the tag in your pocket. mtmuley

Where do you live mtmuley?? I am in Lolo. As close as I am, I really should get down there and photo and play more, but I just dont.....

If I draw it I'll be hitting it real hard scouting though and will spend all my time there starting Sept3rd when bow season opens.

Good Luck on the draws!

Hornseeker, I am in Corvallis. I was born North in Shelby, but was raised here in the Bitteroot. I know the East side from Stevi to Hamilton like the back of my hand. Kootenai Creek is another favorite of mine. I have video on an old 8mm camera of some killer bucks I found. Somehow I need to steal the wife's digital and post pics. These are deer worthy of MM. Now I need the tag. What area did you apply for mule deer buck? I could be of some help. mtmuley

The West side is great. Grew up hiking those mountains as a kid then outfitted them for a while. Took the horses up this July 4th weekend to check feed out along Idaho border. Looks good and green. Will Horseback in for 200" buck for the first time in years this fall. I usually spend first two weeks of Nov day hunts and bouivak for a few days at a time, but ussually am within 5 or 6 miles of valley floor. Tired of waiting for those big guys to come down. Im goin in after them. It is true they ARE up there. I feel a top ten MT could come out of those hills for sure. So many places to hide, unforgiving terrain and a season that ends before rut peek. Oh, heck, now I got myself all excited about hunting season again. Guess I better go inventory my gear. Good luck to both of you.

MTMULEY, Was the 8mm footage from Kootenai or 270? Was recently discussing the genetic traits between the areas.
