Any landowner tags available for third rifle season in or around the Gunnison area?
thanks

sonora,

We had sent a paticular individual a lot of money for third season 54 tags back in January. We planned all of our hunts around that hunt and then the guy just said in mid July "can't get the tags." So he is sending our money back. We bought tags from this person in the past w/o any problems so that is why I am trying to figure out if he got the tags and sold them for a higher price or if he really didn't get the tags. Bottom line is that we really want to find out where those 54 tags that we bought in January ended up.
thanks Bob

p.s. tell buckspy that if he has a cheap tag in 54 that I will trade him my Arizona ocean front property for it.

These things happen when Garth, Alan and the rest of the boys overpromise what they don't have. Pretty shady business practice in my opinion telling everyone that asks they got tags coming there way. What a joke. I've talked to 8-9 guys that got burned so you arent alone.

It is our own fault that we are in this position. We have a lot of points banked and totally structured all of our draws around that hunt. So now we sit here in late July with no hunt. A hard lesson learned. I really want to find out if they really did a horrible job of locking up the tags or sold my tags to a higher bidder.
thanks Bob

I know some landowners decided to keep there tags when they found out how much they were worth instead of selling them to the brokers for just a fraction of what they could get for them on the open market. Also some landowners didnt draw as many tags as expected. Probably some tags going to the highest bidder to make up for the tags they couldn't secure, but thats speculation. Sorry for you guys that lost out but nice to see the big boys squirm.

My understanding of the situation is that landowners apply for vouchers through a drawing process just like hunters apply for tags. With money to be made through the sale of vouchers, more landowners are applying, so no one knows what they will get until after the drawing. In other words, landowners who may have promised somebody vouchers, may have come up with no vouchers to meet the commitments. This is how its been explained to me, by a landowner or 2 in Colorado.

I talked with a lady not mentioned here who last year anticipated a few tags in 54 but towards the draw deadline she was pretty much under the impression that it was going to be very hard to get a hold of some. She thought that the landowners were keeping them instead of selling them as she heard rumours of landowners drawing and then saying they had none. I think it is good for the landowners but a bad idea overall. There are always left over tags that you can plan another hunt around. Sorry and good luck.

I understood it to be similiar to the regular draw. Landowners aquire points, if they didn't receive vouchers in the previous year. Also I heard it was a % of the public tag quota that went to the landowners. I think the tag numbers in 54 were supposed to go up which would mean the number of tags eligible for the landowners would have increased. I smell a rat. Colorado doesn't publish a list of landowners with tags or even landowners in a given unit like Nevada and New Mexicodo so it is hard to get to the bottom of what is happening. Oh well , enough looking back, does anyone have any units that are descent for deer or elk that you can still get a tag.
thanks

Here's my hypothesis, They (hunting consultants) sold the tags 6 months ago for around $3,000, and then had one of their wealthy "regulars" offer $6,000 when they found out in a magazine it was "the unit" to hunt this year. Apparently, greed is more important than your word nowdays.

As INTERPOL said there is plenty of leftover deer tags in other parts of the state and I'll be drn if you could kill one as good as this unit is claiming to be.

cosa,
You and I are thinking alike. Although I think the tags stayed right in his family. Self promotion is important to them.
