I was out this weekend and found a shooter, 5x5 with good mass about 28", he is probably 180 gross, give or take a couple inches. He would be my best buck yet if I get him. I am pretty unfamiliar with the area I found him in, should I check it out more with the possibility of pushing him out or leave it be until 8/20? I have been looking at topos and getting a good idea of the country but, man I'm pretty excited about this guy and don't want to foul it up.

You have found him and 8/20 isnt very far off so just glass him from a distance and dont bump him now. would be my advice... keep tabs on him from a distance but dont get into his bedroom or breakfast area..... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

I think Bura gave you perfect advise.. By watching him from a distance, you will be able to pattern him .. One more piece of advise.. Dont post pics until he is on the ground.. Good Luck!

Well I got the word today "no more time off until your hunt starts" from the boss today so pressuring him isn't going to be an issue. Hopefully by studying some maps I can get a good feel for the area and where hes bedding down at and cut him off. I seen three other nice bucks (24") in the same area, so maybe I can get a shot at one of them, althopugh I cant stop thinking about this guy.

If you can get back to the area and watch him do it, even if it is for a few hours. Do you have to worry about other hunters in the area?

How many additional inches you think the buck will grow before he shed his velvet?

Nothing like hunting a specific buck. I love to find the one you want before the season and get to dream of him every night. Hope you get him, keep us posted.

The area is 3 1/2 hours away so unless I can talk the Mrs. into a little drive on the weekend, I'll just have to hope everything I've read and learned about hunting is enough to give me a chance. The place I saw him is not where you would expect to see a big buck so most people probably won't be around there. He looks like he's pretty much done growing exept maybe an inch or two on the tips. The main problem I have with hunting one buck is I am doing it all the time ( sleeping, driving, working, eating). Must be love.

What is the terrain like? Any timber thickets or thick brush? If I were you I would try to find his local feeding and bedding areas, and try to locate his center area. Or the area that he spends much of his nonactive hours in. Kind of like his living room. It's usually very thick and has little access where he can escape predators and feels safe in. Good luck.
