First thing we need to know is what season are you planing to hunt? Also hope the tags are landowners or something like that. All tags have been given out in the draw. As far as the unit it is about 90% public land with the Holly Cross Wilderness area taking up a lot of land. Access is good with a good number of Forrest Roads. If you plan to go into the wilderness area you would need to be in and out by second season due to bad weather most of the time. In the earlyer seasons dear will be anywhere and everywhere, but the later and worse the weather the closer they will move to I-70. Any other questions drop me a line. Jovan

DM01502R=495 Tags (2nd rifle season)
DM01503R=107 Tags (3rd rifle season)
DE01501A=310 Tags (archery)
DE015P2R=391 Tags (total tags for 2nd and 3rd rifle-but Private Land Only)
Looks like plenty of tags leftover to me. Sale of these tags is Aug. 9th. 9am

That means this tag is good for units 15, 35, 36, and 45. Jeff

I went to the hunts and tags section of this website and theres an ad for trophy bucks and bulls or something like that, the guy emailed me back saying the bull elk was 4500 for a full ride ? and he has some leftover tags for MULE DEER only for 800. i was looking for a hunt for heck anything really, never been to colorado to hunt and wondered if it was worth it for 800 ? I assume I would also have to then buy some kind of tag/license for a nonresident right ? and I have'nt even gotten far enough to ask what the 800 included but by the 4500 for the elk I am thinking it would maybe cost more ?? thanks for the info.
just wanted a low cost deer hunt maybe even be able to take my kid along to hunt as well, but I see the same problem everyone else has- there are no low cost hunts anymore.

alright I looked at the colorado state site and found out some more interesting questions- duh !! nonresident can you tell- lol anyway what is the deal with units 007/008, 009/019/191, 20, 29, 38- jeezus they have LOT of tags leftover, and they went undersubscribed last year as well- what the heck ? also my deer tag would be the 293.25 but my son would only be 103.00 so that would help. also- can a hunter shoot 2 MULE DEER in colorado ? like theres a unit and there are buck and doe tags leftover, same unit, same dates for the hunt- the 4th season 11/16-11/20, can I shoot 2 deer or not ? can I buy an cow elk tag and shoot a cow elk also ? same unit, same dates, different species ? very curious ?? and are the above mentioned units capable of doing this in ?? and finally why is'nt every single other hunter who did'nt draw a tag not doing this as well- it's not expensive or anything ????? whats the catch ??

I'll state it first. I was wrong. I didn't think to check and see if it was included with other units. ______________
Next you can hunt other animal types if the seasons fall within the same time. IE 2nd, 3rd, 4th combine rifle seasons, and the muzzle loader and archery. Now about hunting two deer in the same year. This is the first year you are allow to do this on public land, but only if your antleless deer is hunted in one of these units 18, 27, 28,37,181, and 371. I would not try to hunt more than one type of animal at a time with you not being a Colorado resident and the cost of the tags. Its not a for-sure thing but if you do tag out early you can go to the local DOW office and they can chose to sell you a tag for another specis but dont count on it and it would be good to ask the manager before the season starts. Most mule deer and elk dont hang out to closly to each other. Good luck Jovan

The 2nd tag/additional Middle Park tag is antlerless only...

I can tell you that I thought the same thing last year about all of the left over tags up North - why not give it a try! Well come to find out these units are listed as CWD (chronic wasting disease) and the CDOW is trying to significantly reduce the herd. After a successful elk hunt first season in southern Colorado, four of us travel to Ft. Collins and went West into units 9, 19 & 191 to hunt deer (2 buck tags and 2 doe tags). After four days of hard hunting we had not even seen one deer, and the local game warden (Steve) said he had not checked one camp with any animals. Trust me, I have hunted throughout Colorado my entire life and have never seen so many hunters, you could not even find a place to park. The choice is yours, but I sure hope your on private land...

thanks for all the input you guys, I appreciate it alot, and if you need any on az I'll tell you what I know. so what would you all do if it was just you and your 12 year old son- where would YOU go and try a hunt- 4th season only though and for MULE DEER ????? you can p.m. me if it's important !!!!! thank again.
