GUIDES HELP ON KAIBAB

Okay I am hoping that some guides, or anyone else that spends time on the Kaibab, can help me out here. As I am sure you all know that the AG&F has offered buffalo tags to all the deer hunters on the Kaibab this year. My son actually got lucky enough to get Kaibab Deer tag this year. I don't want to hunt buffalo unless we connect yearly on the deer hunt. I was lucky enough to kill a good bull buffalo last year in Arizona; my son would like to have a chance this year.

My question to all the guides on the West side Kaibab is, where are the buffalo? I have hunted the past 30 years on the Kaibab and have never seen a buffalo on the West side. Since the National Park Service and the AG&F department are trying to take some buffalo off the Kaibab I am hoping to get some help from them, but so far no one will call me back. Can anyone help me where to start looking on the West side as we will do some scouting over the next few months but I want to know where to at least start looking.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I've always heard of the Buffalo being on the East side down by the park. If they've made it over to the west side I would start to look on the border of the east side by the park. Just a hunch!

Twenty years ago I worked as a logger on the Kaibab. I spent nearly eight months a year over a fifteen year period traveling the Plateau, ending in 1995. During all of that time I saw one buffalo. He was on the East side of the Mountain, near Demont Park. I never saw any evidence of buffalo on any other part of the Mountain, but did hear rumor that one bull had been put down near Fredonia, several years ago. Apparently the bull had run ramped. I think he likely raised hell with fences and the likes all the way from House Rock Valley. Anyway, I still get out to the Kaibab on occasion. I have serious doubts that any buffalo exist on the West side.
How much for the buffalo tag and is it bull only or any buff? I've got my own deer tag for the West side late hunt. I suppose it's possible that a couple slipped over that way and the AZ Game & Fish wants them gone. I'll have to check with a reliable source and who knows, maybe buffalo back strap will be on the grill for Thanks giving.

I got drawn for my own early season Kaibab archery hunt! (The same one I got last year) I wonder if I could get a buff tag also?

How did you get lucky enough to draw an archery deer tag in the kaibab when its over the counter!!! Am I missing something here!!!

Two years ago I was up on the Turkey hunt on the plateau,I encountered two buffalo hunters that had filled their tags both on the 223 road just south of the Kaibab Lodge by Browns Canyon.

Hey Heartbreaker, are you trying to tell me everybody got one of these tags? Dang! If that were the case then Kaibab would be overrun with archery hunters! There would be so many people there it would look like the state fair. That is just not imaginable! Can you imagine all of the road hunters that would show up for a hunt like that? ;-) Somebody needs to look into this!

Grizzly, you are speaking a foreign language. The archery is over the counter. The early hunts are rifle in late October and the late Hunts are rifle in November. Nobody even knows what you are talking about....... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

C'mon, Bura! Don't tell me you couldn't read between the lines with Grizz's posts? I thought it was pretty clever myself ...

Yeah no kidding, for $200 I'm sure we can get anyone a special archery permit on the Kaibab. I know somebody that knows somebody, it's not easy but it can be done.

Tooele, get with me on this archery hunt. I need to know if your gonna still go? I might be on strike with our company and Ill have a lot of free time now.

I just got off the phone with my resource. He's begging me to buy a buff tag.
It does make me wonder... what the heck!

What would you do with it once it hit the ground. I'm not helping you pack the damn thing out. I'll be to busy trying to find a 22" 3x4.
