i was wonderin' if any of you guys hunted the muzzy elk or late season cow last year. if so did you see many bucks chasin' after does. last year was my first year hunting the area and i would have to say that was the most deer i have ever seen taken on an opening weekend lots of people iwas able to scout it only once this summer and only saw yearling bucks this sort of alarms me. can a place be over killed in one year? any info would be appreciated. i'll hunt there anyway i would just like to know how good my chances are. still don't have one for the wall.

Hunted the mzzldr bull last year. We saw a total of three bucks during our hunt. Three of us and we went different directions on many days.
One decent 23-24 4x4 chasing does.

I believe I saw Pleasedears buck this weekend. I was over in clay basin and came across a 24in 4x4 runing with a large forky and a long spike. dang spike had horns about 12 in long and the forky forked about that far up... neither the 4x4 or forks had brow tines, must be genetic.

Also came across a decent 5x4 elk.everything looks healthy, lots of greenery still.

I seen 4 buck there around the 29 of july. Two forkies, a 24" 4x4, and a 5x5 that was around 27-28".

LAST EDITED ON Aug-09-05 AT 08:36PM (MST)[p]this is good info guys thanks alot. is this where you hunt deer/elk? last year i shot a 19" 3 pt. w/ 1 1/2" eyeguards. my biggest ever. just wasn't quite big enough for the wall. nate it's nice to here everything is still green. i am not familiar with clay basin. couldn't find it on the map.do you think the snow had alot to do with the successlast year? how often is there snow on the deer hunt?

I think the burn they had all around Dutch John had alot to do with the success last year, there is alot of feed now in that area. Im not sure about the snow, I usualy hunt antelope in Sept. and archery deer here in 2 weeks so Im not in the area for the rifle hunts. Pleasedear is the one to awnser that question.

Clay basin is about 10 miles east of 191 just at the Wyoming/Utah border. turn east off 191 at Spring Creek Guest ranch ( it is about 2 miles north of the Utah border on 191) the sigh says Goslin Mountain/Jarvies Ranch/Indian crossing or somthing like that.
The wyoming side is dirt and when you cross into Utah is is paved all the way to clay basin then turns to dirt again.

Good luck

Nate
