LAST EDITED ON Aug-09-05 AT 01:22AM (MST)[p]Never hunted 111-113 for deer. I have one of 55 tags for the muzzlelaoder season. Hunt starts Sept 18th. Anyone know some good areas??? What size of bucks can I expect to find??

I hunted this area in 2002 for the late rifle season. We scouted pretty heavy from August until the season opened. We settled on camping at Seigel Creek. There were 6 in our party and 5 of us were successful, with the 6th member being a poor shot (Texan of course!). This area is on the east side of the mountain range. You can reach it via the long n-s road just east of Majors Place or by going north out of Ely, past McGill and the over the mountain on the old pony express route. There are also good deer on the east side of the mountain to the north of the old pony express trial. We were fortunate enough to get 2 forkies, 2 3x3's and 1 4x4 on this hunt. I have also done some camping in the area since. There are plenty of deer here. Get yourself high (but not skylined) and do lots of glassing. We have been trying to get drawn for this hunt again with no luck yet. I did however draw an archery tag for 101-108. I was up there last weekend and and plan to hunt the last full week of the season. Any advice for this area? By the way, from what I understand, the area known as "success loop" draws must of the hunting pressure in this unit, you should be fine for the hunt you are on, but keep this in mind if you draw an early rifle tag in the future. Cleve Creek was an area we scouted and saw some good deer there too, but did not hunt this area.

JP

Thanks JP,

I've been scouting the remote wasteland, I have a nice 5x6 spotted, lets see if he is still there come September. Anyone hunt taft, or Macoy canyons??
