I've seen all the banter about the Rubys and the East Humbolt Range in this Hunt Unit. Anybody know if the Pequops or Spruce Mt. is any good in the early archey season? I was at the south end of the Ruby Crest Trail on opening day and saw lots of hunters, but no deer and little sign. I was primarily scouting and explored some other areas as well. I will be going back for the last 8 days of the season. Many thanks for any information in advace!

Spruce Mtn has a resident herd, but it's nomally where the deer go once the snow pushes them out of the Ruby's. Not knowing what type of hunting your are willing to do it hard to tell you where to go. There's always Harrison Pass. Deer there always.

I hunted that unit a few years ago and had a great time harvesting a nice buck on the last day we were there. If you are willing to hike a bit go up Lamoille and head south. Any of the drainages past Wines Peak will hold good numbers of deer. We found plenty to chase around. The trick is getting far enough away from the zoo around Lamoille, then you will find the deer. You might want to head west from Lamoille Lake and check out the area around Mount Fitzgerald too. Again, get at least five miles in and you will start finding deer. Good luck, keep us posted.
