Didn't get any mule deer pics but thought I would post some pics anyway.

I was out yesterday to visit several ranch clients. The first ranch is in one of the most remote places you could imagine living. I thought I would post some pics for those that don't live in the west and show what some of your public lands look like.

After driving 60 miles I stopped to take a pic to show the big open

This was a very encouraging sign to me. Whether you love or hate them, ATV's are destroying public lands in the west.

While driving out in the middle of the prarie, no trees within miles, I came across several stock ponds that are still full from our ample June rains.

Zoom in and there is a hen and her brood from this year.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-18-05 AT 01:02PM (MST)[p]Great pics but where are the speed goats? Sure looks like their kind of country.

Nice pics nemont, i love the 3rd pic, i love hunting stuff like that, you never know when your gonna look down into one of those fingers and find a big ol buck laying in it.

You guys might think I'm crazy,
but I actually got warm fuzzies when I saw
the pictures!

I'm not kidding!

Man I love to hunt.

Nemont, when you say some place is way out "in the middle of nowhere" I bet it truly is really really out there. Dont you live in Glasgow? Those are some very nice pictures. Some mexican ranches are just full of property with nothing but God's country as far as the eye can see similar to your pic..... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

Great pics, NEMont. Looks identical to where I'm at on the south side of the lake, just north of Jordan. Here's a pic of my cabin, which literally borders the CMR. Can't wait for the season to start...

Rackmaster, I agree that ATV's are hurtin our hunting. Not exactly in my state, but the would be road hunters can now get out into some good country away from the roads where they don't have to work. Just another way to help the lazy man shoot yearly bucks in my opinion.

And horses? Why are horses hurting the west? I would like to know.

Rackmaster,
Great reply. If you think ATV's are not a threat so be it. Explain why then in area where development is not an issue, on one of the largest single blocks of public owned land in lower 48 are there signs that say no cross country travel yearlong?

It is kind of funny about your insult regarding my education because you apparently are a few fries short of a happy meal as well. See if your comprehension skills can follow what I said.

Here is the quote from me: "This was a very encouraging sign to me. Whether you love or hate them, ATV's are destroying public lands in the west." NOTE TO RACKMASTER I DIDN'T SAY DESTROYING THE WEST.

Here is the quote from you:"ATV's ARE DISTORYING THE WEST!
are you on crack?? developement, drought, slob hunter ,over harvest, loggging, fires, horses, hikers, trucks, jeeps!!!!well picked atv smart guy you are !you most done passed 4th grade!!"

First off in 4th grade I learned that it is spelled DESTROYING (no I in the word and the R comes before the O)

#2 : the last time I checked there hasn't been alot of development on public lands. Hence the one pic in this post was regarding damage done to a public resource by illegal ATV riders and the BLM's attempt to end that damage.

#3: Please show me, in these pics of this short grass prairie evironment, where the over logging has taken place?

#4: Fire is a natural part of this landscape and is generally a good thing for the prairie

#5. This area has not been in an extreme drought since the late 90's. We have been lucky here locally as the most extreme drought has been to the south and west of us.

#6. Horses have been part of this landscape for at least 175 years so I don't believe they are responsible for the 4 wheeler tracks that are prevalent on the hillsides.

#7. Hikers most likely have not traversed much of this landscape but if they have it is much more difficult to find a trace of them vs. the deep cuts left on the fragile bentonite slopes from water running down the 4 wheeler tracks.

#8 trucks and jeeps have done damage as well however if one were to measure the track width left by either vs that of the 4 wheelers one would find that 4 wheelers are the ones that have done far more damage.

Again thank you for the extremely informative response and the personal attack even though I didn't attack you. Maybe before you respond you should consider the context of what is said and what exactly was being communicated. Either that or go back and have your Kindergarten teacher send you to the time out corner.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-21-05 AT 11:51AM (MST)[p]Nice pics Jeff and good response. Only problem is the phone number on the sign won't find anyone at the office. I think they are still shut down because of some mold issues.

Thanks for the entertainment RM. You will have your hands full trying refute what NeMont stated.

BTW, nice pad you have there Mt Bullhunter.

Great pic's NeMont.
I got a tag again this year and will be in Jordan in November.
Really like to see all the water and good feed. Looking forward to some good horn growth.

Love those pictures....you need to post more pictures of your 'life' over there :)

Great picture of the cabin MTbullhunter....looks like an awesome place!

Looks real similar to my neck of the woods. Been hunting speed goats and muleys the last few days in it.

I agree on the ATV thing as well. It is just too easy NOT to get off that bike and take it on over the hill for a look-see. That dried grass gets pressed down and the next person on a quad sees it and before you know it, you have roads and erosion problems. Was hunting just north of my home town and there are 4 wheeler tracks everywhere. Going through springs, down steep hills, out on promontories. You name it, if it can be driven too, there was 4 wheelers there.

Rack does have a good point about the slobs. I went by the same gate twice in two days. both times after I had put it up, it was layed down and not returned. It was little difficult to put up and I guess the so called "sportsman" didn't have the strength or the brains to fix the problem. There is always fencing wire around gates out in the west. I finally just fashioned a new hoop, a bit looser than the original, and put that on the gate. Hope that fixes the problem. Still, there were a lot of cattle on the other side now. I imagine if this BS continues, it will incur the losss of another 50 sq. miles of hunting.

Developement like crazy out here as well. Seems like the smart folks in CA are selling there real estate at over-blown prices, buying ranchettes here and larger tracts of land, and then fencing them off. Pretty sad. Sure wish the gold prices here and real estate prices in CA would take a big dive. Might be able to hold on to the hunting areas a little while longer.

Looks like you were headed out to bone trail to me perhaps on willow slick road - that one is a tough one when it gets real wet. The first stock pond may have been before you turn off to head south to the murray place??

Excellent reply NeMT. I suspect that most of the readers here will agree that when we peruse this site and see your name on a post, we read it to get MT updates. I doubt the same could be said about rackmaster or whoever he is, regardless of the subject.

no word on devlopment? what about cattle grazing?
what about the weeds horse feed spread and choke out natural plants? or the scar from stock trails? sheep?(eat down to the roots)illness that are introdused(sp?:)from stock? jeep trails have scared 100's of time more than quads, feral cats have almost wiped out song birds!
I am just saying its not fair to blame quads! And I am not saying they'er are not people being outlaws on them just!
Quads are not the only problem and its so easy to say in a dumb ass uneducated way they are distroying the west single handedly! may the quad outlaws pay a price for what you all seem to think about whats happening!!! I think you guys are fueling a fire here and many saying that they want to take the law into their own hands(by shooting them, rolling them into a ditch, cuting wires, fuel lines!)is wrong and it fires me (a lawful rider)up! great photos! and thanks for sharing!

Count to ten RM. I think if you look back, all NeMont said was..."This was a very encouraging sign to me. Whether you love or hate them, ATV's are destroying public lands in the west". After that, you flew off the handle. Something about crack pipes and a fourth grade education. Not sure exactly what you meant since your grammar and spelling are difficult to interpret.

You are correct, lots of issues are impacting the future of the West and quads are one of them. I am guessing if NeMont would have posted a picture of some gas wells or a block of spurge, he would have made mention of it...but he didn't, let it go.
