Just heard a new world record archery buck was shot in Co. It green scored 274. The hunter was a Utard, if true congrats to J.L.

Where did you hear this rumor? I havent heard a thing. How bout some details.

Jeff

I heard the same thing. I would sure like to see a picture. Congrats to the hunter if this story pans out to be true.

As long as it wasn;t a Draper got tired of that kid.

they let them Utards into Colorado to hunt?

I'd like to see the pics... or read the story, where's everybody hearing about it from?

I have a question and I'm not trying to stir anything up, but why do so many people have so much tension against people that are from Utah?

All in good fun.

Just ribbin you guys.

Unless we start talking of the some of the wildlife organizations.

Bessy has it against the draw and tag allotment too.

You know how rumors go but this is the year in Colorado for it to be true.

Any body know which taxidermy shop has it. If it is here in Junction I find out if it is true.

Just saw pics of the buck UNFREAKING believable! I guess Hatch is on his way to see it. 39 inches wide with forks to die for. The pics are gorgous, DK would be proud, they took it about 12000 ft above tree line. Russ

It'll have to score 274 15/16 if its a new world record....unless I"m mistaken.

Lets see.. Price is a town in CO or UT? What area or unit was the buck harvested? Hell, west or east of the divide? Oops, I guess it was the west side if it was taken at such a high altitude.

WOW, can't wait to see the pics and read the story. Nothing better than a big ol' boy like that being taken above treeline. To think with a bow too. That's AWESOME!!!!

Let me get this right , There was a monster buck hanging out in Colorado and it took a utard to stick it with a arrow? Someone should stop worrying about utards , take off the pink shirt and get some camo and go HUNTING.

Well I was very lucky to have seen these photos of this buck and I dont know what impressed me more the deer or the background ,, Honestly you could not have painted it any better the buck is not a ugly non typical but a very even non typical the extras are all long and one is split into a Y and there is one that I would call a drop tine good eye gaurds that grow along the main beams and the photos are to die for lush green open country (above treeline) and even a large waterfall in the background about a 1000 yards away but all I can say is WOW this is the type of deer you dont just luck into he has lived on public ground I am shure most of his life and it would take a lot of skill and luck to get within rifle range not to mention he was killed with a stick and string!!!!!!!!!!! I talked to the brother of the fella that harvested this and talk about humble people I dont think I could be that humble if I had been on this hunt all I can say is this buck was taken by some very good people that hunt harder then most and that is how this happend to them

I am shure in due time we will all get to see photos but understand this kind of buck will get alot of attention and they are going to be told to not let the photos out by people like Ryan Hatch so that they can do a exclusive story on this hunt and harvest of such a Great animal

Congrads to the hunter and his freinds and family that where with him on this hunt they will never forget.......

He is from northern Utah, shot it in CO and is having it mounted in Price? Man, this guy gets around! Oh well, if it were mine I would probably still be driving around town with it in the back of my truck. lol.

After a year of good-to-superb precipitation trends across much of the western United States, it appears as if the 2005 big-game hunting season is off to the record-book races.

That's because Internet hunting site and message board chatter has lit up the World Wide Web in recent days with talk of big bull elk, mule deer bucks and pronghorn antelope bucks having already fallen to archers out in the field.

Two of those animals appear to be highly impressive world-class mule deer taken by bowhunters.

The first, a velvet-horned non-typical mega muley, was reportedly taken on the opening weekend of the Colorado archery season.

ESPNOutdoors.com has spoken with a Utah taxidermist who has green-scored the buck's rack as a 277-inch gross non-typical and a 273-inch net non-typical with a spread of 38 6/8 inches.

To put those numbers into proper perspective, the current Pope & Young Club world record for a hard-horned non-typical muley is a 1987 Colorado buck that was taken by bowhunter Kenneth W. Plank with a net score of 274 7/8 inches.

While Pope & Young doesn't have a permanent record category for velvet-antlered mule deer, the Club does record the top such fuzzy-horned animals for each record-book scoring period.

Again, to put the above numbers of the reported 2005 Colorado mule deer buck bow kill into historical perspective, another glance at the P&Y record book is needed.

That peek at the 1999 fifth edition of the P&Y record book shows a 264 6/8 inch velvet-antlered muley at the top of the non-typical list for that scoring period.

ESPNOutdoors.com has been unable as yet to contact the bowhunter for details about his hunt.

The second mega-muley that ESPNOutdoors.com has learned of was reportedly taken last month by expert bowhunter Randy Ulmer.

If that name sounds familiar, it should be since the Arizona-based Ulmer is a regular archery participant in the ESPN Great Outdoor Games, a frequent contributor to major bowhunting publications and TV shows and one of the country's top mule-deer hunters.

While ESPNOutdoors.com efforts to contact Ulmer about his reported Nevada muley have not been successful, the deer is being widely discussed via Internet posts on the Bowsite.com and MonsterMuleys.com Web sites.

Those posts ? including one from a well-known hunting guide ? give unsubstantiated reports that the Ulmer non-typical muley reportedly has more than 20 scorable points, a spread of more than 32 inches and a potential score in the low 240s range.

With three giant Western big-game animals already reported ? the two mule deer mentioned above, along with the Lacy Harber bull elk from New Mexico taken Sept. 7 ? it does indeed appear as if the 2005 season is off to a grand start.

Stay tuned to ESPNOutdoors.com as we inform you of future trophy news.
