I actually wouldnt go 7RUM. Bullet availability isnt what other calibers have (only 1 single bullet cartridge available from Remington themselves at the moment), and really from a ballistics standpoint the difference between the 7RUM and 7Mag is only 6" at 500 yards with a 250 yard zero.

If you follow handloading forums much there is a raging debate at the moment if the UltraMags are dying off and when they will be discont. Some good points being made on both sides of the fence but do your own homework LOL.

But if you want one that bad Remington shows a couple rifles in that caliber, BDL or CDL for around $770-800. Beyond that you need to look into custom rifles but there is usually a waiting list on those. Just make sure whatever you pick has a 26" or longer barrel and dont get it in an "Mountain rifle" or Boss configuration.

I own the baby brother of the 7RUM, a 7STW and really like it. Lots of mfgs make them and just about every company makes several types of ammo for it.

I agree with Dallan, the 7RUM is largely a handloaders cartridge and does best with 28" barrels, recoil is more than most people like and it uses about 95 grs of powder!!!! If you really want one and have loading stuff, go for it. If not, try a 7STW or 7 Rem Mag. Heck even a 7mm weatherby would do nicely.
If you do buy one, I load for a friend who has one and he gets really good groups with 95 grs. of RL-25 with the 160 Accubond and fed magnum match primers......

Angel,, doesnt matter which rifle, caliber and stuff like that..
I've known you all your life and you still can't hit the side of a barn if it were 50 Yrds in front of you. Don't waste your money on the 7MM... Your 30-06 is more fire power than you'll ever need on your 12a-w hunt. The fact that you've missed more deer in the last few years than anybody I know has nothing to do with your 30-06, its the shooter.. WORK ON YOUR SHOT!!!

Bigdeer,

Born to Hunt, forced to Work.

I have a 7mmRUM in a model 700 with a 26" barrel. They don't kick as bad as people say but ammo is a problem. Remington only offers 140 grain corelokt. I was lucky enough to get 3 boxes of 140 Nosler partitions before they quit offering them. Mine shoots pretty well, haven't put it on paper beyond 200 yards though. Good luck! The STW and Weatherby 7mm's are great guns also.
