GRRR!!!! What to do!??!

Well, it's a long story, so be prepared. My father's boss's family owns 6000 acres down in the blue mountains. It borders the Watershed and is in the Wenaha. It's called "Klicker Mountain". We were hoping to get a weekend scouting trip in the area to see what kind of bucks there are and where they're at. Turns out that if we aren't hunting, then we have to have my Dad's boss with us. So, therefore, I'm going to have to wait until the opener in October to even see the area we're hunting. I CAN'T do that! I've been itching all summer to get there and scout, but now I can't. He says to not worry as they know where all the deer are. However, I'm not after any run of the mill 3 point. I want to get in there, and find a good buck, try and find out where he's hanging out at, and go for a particular buck. This is killing me!!!!!

Sorry for the rant, totally pointless, but I know people here understand that passion that we all have!

Scout the property that borders his property. Also keep in mind the basics. Glass high and low, morning and evening. Keep water sources in mind. And go scout another area so that you can have a plan B. What if the hunt does not turn out like you planned. Maybe there will be lots of rules and restrictions. If you have a plan B then you can always move to your other area. If plan A works out then thats great. But you might want to hunt plan B area next year. fatrooster.
 
FAtrooster gave some great advice. With my permit this year I can't get on the ranch till the hunt day so when we go over the day before we are going to drive around, spot some game and get a feel for what its going to be like.

IF your source is trustworthy then trust they know where the deer are. Not going in before hand could be a blessing. If you scouted you may get your mind set on a certain deer being in a certain place on opening morning and it may not come to pass. Also if this is your first buck don't be too selective, get that first buck under your belt and then work on getting bigger bucks each year. After my first buck my standards got too high(to many eastmans hunting magazines), as a result I passed on some bucks that I now wish I hadn't as they were really nice bucks.

Do you have a TOPO MAP of the area? You should be able to pick all the good spot's on the map!!!I have a TOPO MAP program for my Computer and I don't know how I Hunted with out it!!! If it is possible to get up high on adjoining property do you really want to get caught doing that by your Father's Boss's family?
 
We completely trust the owner. His grandfather homesteaded it back in 1800 something and they've had it ever since. I have scouted the topo maps, but need a little larger scale to pick out the better spots. North and East facing slopes right? Shade, water, cover, good browse, remote location, no roads...etc I guess I could deffinately get in a scout the surrounding property. Good idea. I'll see what I come up with, and get back with you guys.

Slider has a good point. You don't want to make your Dad's boss mad. And you don't want to make the neighbors mad if they owne the adjoining property by tresspassing. But if the adjoining land is public land then I would definitely be scouting it. The deer may be moving in and out of his property which is something I would like to know if it was my hunting spot. And if the boss gets mad at you for scouting public land which is beside his property then I would think about hunting somewhere else anyway. Just my opinion. fatrooster.
 
The whole reason we have to have him with us when we scout is because his cousins have a lawsuit or something saying that if people aren't hunting, then they need to be accompanied by a family member (won't matter during the actual season, but until then, they want us with somebody). I guess they've had problems with people poaching or something. I'm sure he won't mind us scouting whatever we can. I really just want to get in the general area, and find some good looking bucks.

And don't worry, I've already shot my first deer. A monster 15" wide two point that I got when I was 12. Funnest hunt of my life, and a memory that I will cherrish forever.

My goal this year is to shoot a mature buck. Unless the last day comes, and I find a decent legal buck. It really depends on what kind of deer they have.

When we hunted the Blue Mountains a year or two ago, we saw a buck that was absolutely huge. Big typical that would go well over 30". never saw hide nor hair of him during the season or the year after.

Still trying to find a way to get in on the border of the property to scout it. I have to make a call to the owner, but that's fine. I'm pretty sure I'll be on the western or southwestern side of the property. I know that there is some good bucks there, but finding where they like to hide is the problem. I'll get back.
