Just got back from guiding, 1 hunter took a solid 170 typ with triple brows on each side, the other hunter had very bad allergy's to the sage brush and thought he was going to die so he shot a 150 typ, so he could get off the mountain last night poor feller he had past some larger bucks in the morning but when this guy stepped out he said weak on the fronts not very wide I'm headed to macall in the morning elk hunting and boom lmao.. I got both bucks kill shots on film, & both were spine shots. pretty much shooting between there toes off the cliffs one was at 214 yrds the other 302 yrds i told them both to put it low on the heart lucky they did or both would have over shot them, they were both taken with 300 wsm and drop in there tracks in the film real cool, waste of backstraps though.
almost all the big bucks in northern utah are hard horned 80%, most the smaller ones are still velvet, put these 2 guys on over 100 bucks there 1st day, of which 50+ of them were 4x4's, neither of them could hold out on this 5 day hunt, i didn't even have a chance to show them around that kind of sucks,but both have rebooked for next year, and I'm not given them a gun till around day 3, hehe, seen one velvet 3x3 that was pushing 31 inches but had weak fronts, funny thing is this morning alot of the bucks were pushing each other around, they dont waste no time, of course the velvet bucks didnt want anything to do with it, the 170 buck was trying to rub the rest the velvet off his bases when he got dumped so it looks like he has dreads, the hunter said he is going to mount his bob marley buck with the velvet still like that..headed to cabelas new store in the morning yay!! till the next hunt, everyone good luck and thanks for reading..
