Ok, I've scouted my hunting area found some really nice bucks 10 miles into the wilderness area. Last Monday I rode horses and packed 24 gallons of water and lots of canned sardines etc up to the top of the mountain. On my way out I was dissapointed to see a couple thousand sheep in the canyan right below the draw I plan to hunt. The sheep were still low but were grazing upwards towards the draw. Are the sheep going to run the deer out of the country? fatrooster.

If you were smart you would bone up on your spanish and take that little peruvian guy that's been sleeping with those sheep a couple of big mac's and ask him what he has seen.

ONE THING ABOUT IT!!!

IF THEM SHEEP RUN THE DEER OUT,I'D RUN THE SHEEP OUT!!!

NOTHING WORSE THAN RIDING/HIKING INTO A DRAINAGE/BASIN & SMELLING THEM STINKING BASTARDS!!!

YOU EVER FELT LIKE DOING A SHOOTING SPREE???

IF THAT HERDER FINDS YOUR SARDINES YOU MIGHT BE EATING MUTTON!!!

THE ONLY bobcat THINKING SHEEP OUGHT TO BE OUTLAWED OR USED AS TARGET PRACTICE IF EVER LOCATED ON THE FOREST!!!

I ALMOST FORGOT!!!

TELL THE HERDER IF HE MOVES THEM INTO YOUR DEER TERITORY YOU'RE CALLING 'JACKMASTER'!!!

THE ONLY bobcat LMAO!!!

Gotta love those f-ing range maggots! Not! They can do lot more damage to deer habitat than cattle. Get a wolf decoy, coyote howler and spook them critters into the next county! Haahaaa... Or, just give in and have some good, outdoor lovin'!
Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh...... Ooooohhhh... yeah!!!!!!!!!

I've had those stinking sheep screw up a few of my hunts and my advice is stay away from them. A few years back I was cow calling and I heard something running my direction and it didn't sound like elk, all of a sudden 3 Big Sheep Dogs show up, well thankfully the wind was blowing in right direction and they didn't see me. Man if a cow call made them come in like that I knew I needed to hunt another part of the area and get away from those sheep.

Wise words. A cold can of Coke can net you more advice of where to find "el Grande" than about anything else you can do. Ignore Bobcatbess and his as usual illegal advice LOL.

Those herders are usally very nice and offering them a 6pack of pop or beer and some candy bars might just land you a free guide to some monster animals, speaking from actual experience here... just DONT let the herders boss find out LOL what you are up to.

EDIT: PS: Some of the best hunting access I ever had was on private property where they ran 16,000 head of sheep most of the year. Saw the single biggest deer of my life there and man the number of huge elk were insane.

DON'T LISTEN TO DallanC,THATS BRIBING,THATS TRADING GOODS FOR GAME BASICALLY,BASICALLY PAYING AN UNLICENSED GUIDE,LOL!!!

IN UTARD YOU CAN'T DO THAT!!!

Dallan,SHEEP & STINKY ELK MIGHT MIX,JUST TRY MOVING THEM SHEEP INTO A DRAINAGE WHERE DEER HAVE BEEN ALL SUMMER & SEE WHAT HAPPENS!!!

MULE DEER ARE SMARTER THAN TOO STICK AROUND & ENJOY THE AROMA!!!

THE ONLY bobcat NOT DOING TUNE-UPS ON MUTTON,I'LL LET JACKMASTER TAKE CARE OF THAT PART!!!

Well I guess deer here in northern NM the deer are not like deer where ever you guys are speaking of . My grandparents have a herd on the ranch , along with cattle and mega elk , and DEER . We keep a pretty good handle on coyotes too , and theres plenty of muleys in the ranch . Yeah I agree , sheep don't just graze softly, they eat the grass all the way down to the ground , but they won't run deer out of the country , atleast not here . My grandpa has never had too many as to danger the grazing for our cattle , but since before I was born my family has run sheep and cattle on the ranch , and theres always been deer , if anything , theres houndreds more elk in there now , and they would be more responsible for taking over deer areas . Remember , elk and sheep graze , deer , browse...and if deer were being run off because of the sheep , my dad and grandpa wouldn't always be getting asked for permission to hunt the ranch....NMHUNTNUTT

Okay, if sheep doesn't stay very long like few days then you should be okay and stick with your plan, personal, i hate when that happens but sometime it is surprisely what you have find.

Ah, grass maggots.
I too have had my share of bad luck when sheep are in my spot. I have a wilderness area I hunt every year and there are sometimes thousands of them messing things up. But according to NF employees sheep grazing is seen as "historic in the wilderness" and so regardless of damage done it is allowed. They do eat all available feed down to the dirt and wild game can't stand them. If sheep are around, deer and elk won't be...

maybe you should get some sheep decoys and place their heads in the fence, that way the herders will come in and you can scare the remaining flock away.
