Freezer died

We had a temp drop of 20 degrees this morning and snow up high, I was dieing to hit the ridge to catch some serious elk action. I know the trees were being shredded today. Anyhow, I got up, and happened through the backroom where one of our freezers is located and there is stuff dripping out the bottom. Turns out it was raspberries that had thawed. I freaked because I have a ton of moose and elk in there. Most of it was still frozen, but if I hadn't walked back there I would have been sick. I purged about a dozen birds I need to skin and taxidermy out of another freezer to make room. Not a good way to start your fall.

What a great day! Imagine if you hadn't noticed... Still sucks, but it would've been terrible to loose all of that great meat.

I know how that goes. Unfortunately when it happened to me, I wasn't as lucky. My brother had a near empty freezer at his house, so when I killed my bull elk last year and my cow the year before, I used his freezer to store my extra meat. Well, this summer he went out of town, and we had a short power outage. The outage tripped his breaker in the garage, and when he returned from Disneyland....5 days later, all my elk meat had thawed and is now ruined. Luckily I had a little bit stored at my house and little at my parents, so I didn't come out of it empty handed.

You got lucky. Last month my wife found one of our freezers had been turned off thanks to my 7 year old boy playing in the garage. The freezer that was still on had nothing but ice and frozen meals in it. The one that got turned off? It had a whole elk and one mule deer and both ruined. Half of it was sausage and quite expensive. We are both sick over that one and I told my boy I would remind him every hunting season of what he did till the day he dies.LOL!

I had a similar experience last summer, lost a bunch of salmon, and deer meat, it stunk and was a bummer to lose all that good stuff.

I'm very lucky. The repair man is coming out today I hope. Its only three years old. The good news about it, I got some taxidermy done that I needed to work on.
