LAST EDITED ON Sep-13-05 AT 02:04PM (MST)[p]If my year wasn't good enough this year from getting a 170 inch buck it turned to phenomenal when my wife got her first deer. It all started after I took my wife deer hunting for the first time last year with a rifle. unfortunaly we didn't see one buck the entire season. After that I told her I would take her archery hunting next year and get her one. I bought her a bow in 04 and right away she had a great ability to shoot a bow. I shot with her all spring and summer and by the end of july she had won a 2nd place in one and 1st place in another archery golf shoot. Even with all of the great archery she shot she still didn't think she was good enough for the hunt. I would keep telling her that all she would need is a decent shot at a deer and it would be hers. well the hunt finally arrives for my wife and needless to say it started out a little bad. we slept in the first moring of the hunt and didn't get onto the mountain until 8:00 so I didn't have a lot to hope. we ended up seeing a good 2 or 3 point that see ended up not getting a shot at and that was all we saw that morning. That afternoon we decided to get a early start and get on the mountain around 3:30. So that afternoon we made it about half way around the mountain when my wife spots a little buck on the side of the road. I stopped and let her get out she ranges the buck at 30 yards and gets ready to draw on him. suddenly he turns and looks straight at her. being so knew to the sport she didn't know what to do so I told her to make a shot. she started trying and get to the side of the buck but he keep turning with her. She was getting a little frustrated when the buck decided he was done with this and starts to walk away. all of the sudden he stops broadside in the only opening she would have a shot through. She pulls back and lets it fly and finishes it with a good pumpkin thump. the deer goes running through the trees and we listen to him stomp through the brush. shortly after that we start to her what we think is a deer gasping for air. We wait for an agonizing 30 minutes and finally go looking for her arrow. when we find it it is covered in good red blood a perfect hit. We get on the trail and only find sparse blood and I just hope it is hit good. suddenly about 30 yards from where she shot the buck he is piled up in the brush a perfect double lung shot at 27 yards. I was unbelievably happy. She made it in one clean shot. My wife was dissapointed at how small he was but any deer let alone your first deer with a bow should be a trophy. So now she says she has to go next year so she can get a bigger one. So I will happily be taking her to the woods next year. thanks again for enduring the long story. this is definitly one of the happiest years of my life.

That is awesome and she should feel awesome after getting her deer! To get one with a bow is tough enough let alone it being your first deer. Good job and good luck next year.

Congratulations!

I understand what you are talking about as this year my wife shot her first ever with a bow. While she got some shots at some really big bucks, she ended up getting one just like your wifes. They might be small bucks but they are sure darn proud of 'em... and doing it with a bow, terrific!

You are a blessed man.
Your wife not only joins you in your love of the hunt but now has the "fever"

Good job. Congrats to her and she WILL get a bigger one next year.

Thats absolutelty awesome , tell her congrats , and to you as well . My first bow buck is almost the twin to that buck , but after six years of not ever making a shot on an animal , my fork horn seemed like a booner at the time . I actually got him mounted . Needless to say I've had great success since then , that was in 97 , but how I remember my first bow kill . Again congrats , thanks for sharing both of your hunts , and even more , thanks for bringing back memories....NMHUNTNUTT

Great job!!
I have shot alot of monster buck in my time but the funnest thing is to watch a new hunter take their first animal.

That will always be a great memory for both of you.

Congratulations!!!

P.S. I'm also an old Bingham miner

You're one lucky man...To have a wife that enjoys hunting with you. Good job on the archery kill and don't worry about it being little.
Tell her that size doesn't matter anyways!!!! ;-)
