I read the posting from arch3614elk titled "they thought it was a deer". It was unbelievable that something like that could happen . It is more unbelievable and sad how some of the MM members immedaitely started bashing fellow hunters.

I look at the forums on MM daily in hopes of learning and preparing for an upcoming hunt in the west. What I see makes me sick . Some of you have to find fault with everthing you read.

You bash the hunters from Canada, Mexico, the east , and even neighboring states.

You bash a fellow hunter for getting a guide , for hunting private land , for hunting public land or for coming out west without having spent days pre scouting.

You bash fellow hunters for the caliber of rifle that they have,the gun makers , the bullets someone uses , and how they dress.

I am sure that this site was intended to aid and assist fellow hunters in one of the most enjoyable sports there is. And some members use it just as that . But sadly other are ruining it.

I have had enough. I will never open the MM site again. We don't have to worry about the anti hunters ,we can ruin it for ourselves.

To those members that are not guilty, I wish you the best of luck. The rest of you, I hope I do not see you on the moutain.

Not everyone here acts as you describe. Maybe some of the bashing you noticed was longtime users having fun with each other. Most here at MM are eager to help with whatever advice you may need. First timer or old timer, all need help sometime. But since you will never read this, you'll miss out. There's a lot of good things here. mtmuley

77...i hope you at least look at this site to see your replies re: your post. i'm not a real sentimental fellow, but it truly saddens me to see anyone leave this site, be they hunter, photographer, or just interested in the outdoors.. because other members' remarks seem unfit, derogatory, or just 'finding fault' for whatever reason. i enjoy contributing to this site, and i hope those that read my posts enjoy them, too. it upsets me at times also, like you, when i read posts that are totally uncalled for and do nothing but criticize. at times, i want to reply and and give my '2 cents worth', but i refrain...i go on, i read the other posts that i find informative, enjoyable, entertaining. i love the pictures presented by deerking, hoofs and horns', hunterbob, lpgred, founder, browtine,, the list is endless. i could sit here all night and name the members i enjoy reading posts from. these 'good folks' totally overwhelm every 'bad post' i've read here. my momma didn't raise no Rhodes scholar, but i do know, wherever we go, there will always be folks we disagree with or ones that are just downright 'onery'. this site is no exception. i would only ask that you reconsider and stay here and contribute. i'm sure you know, that for the most part, most members here are 'good people'. sorry, sometimes i 'get ramblin'...stay with us. lf

There certainly are times where people may think that some MM members have overstepped their bounds in their comments and reactions to certain posts. I read all the posts to the thread in question and I really can't see your complaint in this one. I would highly doubt if their were too many MM members (if any) that felt mistaking a Moose for a grouse was just an honest mistake. I would imagine as has played out here that most feel the hunter, (maybe the term shooter fits better, he's certainly not a hunter in my view)ok shooter, is a complete idiot and really has no business being in the field let alone toting a firearm around. Perhaps why so many feel the same way here and have come down so hard on him is that through his actions he is giving law abiding ethical hunters that live by the rules of fair chase a bad, very bad name. This kind of behavior reflects really poorly on all of us in the court of public opinion. We all know hunting is a priveledge not a right, and people take these types of actions very seriously that threaten their ways of life. We all know that priveledges can be taken away.

That guy obviosly doesnt visit any other forums, MM is BY FAR the kindest, gentlest, most helpful forum I visit (unfortunately I visit quite a few) only occasionally do you get a flamer.....I aint leaving till they make me!!!!

Funny, I read that post again also and can't see where any "hunters" were bashed.

Some poachers were bashed

Some idiots were bashed

Stories about other idiots/poachers were told.

There's no doubt some posts get out of hand, but my heck its an internet forum...anyone can post and some people just like stirring the pot.

YOu probably won't read this, but if you do.....you may have some legitimate reason for leaving the site but the post you referred to was a really bad example.

We as hunters need to police our own ranks. You should have nothing but disgust for grouse "hunters" shooting a deer with a shotgun that turns out to be a moose.

As far as I'm concerned they should not only be charged with poaching the moose but for attempting to poach a deer!

I believe I know why he left. It's not because of "bashing", "berating of so-called hunters" or any of the so-called excuses he wanted to throw out there. It's very possible that the guy that this happened to was this very same fellow that has just left our presence. Just my thought.

One can certainly see why the guy left, as some posts get way out hand, but even then they're entertaining for the most part. The positive posts, photos, ideas, advice, etc. here far outway the others. Gotta love it!

I see where 77 is coming from to a point. The bashing in our own house, not just here but in general, does get out of hand. My guess is with the anonymity of the Internet people more freely voice their opinion such as longbow vs. compound vs. crossbow or Camo West vs Realtree vs. Mossy Oak. Also anti's can and do infiltrate and stir the pot. I had a concern that maybe we would implode as a group.
Then I thought it's just like having brothers or sisters. I can talk all I want about my sibling, but you better not run your mouth. Internet tough guys are just that and I enjoy searching them out and going toe to toe with them.
77 don't sweat it it's the Internet for crying out loud. I could be your neighbor and you wouldn't know it. When the fight comes to us as a group we'll rally around each other and defend the perimeter.
As far as morons shooting the wrong animal, well they are just that. They should be banned from hunting, have all weapons taken away and issued football helmets to wear at all times so they don't hurt themselves. Just my two cents and nothing more.

It cracks me up every time these wimpy wussy's come on here and post a dozen time and then have to do a "feel sorry for me" farwell speach! If those fellas do not know how close to stand next to the fire may be they are better off just not being anywhere near it!!
AS FAR AS NEVER OPENING A MM FORUM AGAIN THATS AN LIE.....FLAT OUT! This place is as cool as it gets.. even when our(my) mouths say more than it should!

I guess everyone can justify there own opinions.And its easy to talk like a bad ass when nobody knows who you are.Other hunting sites may be worse.But its too bad when you lose new people to the site.For new people coming on the site many are intimidated, by the jerks.I love to read every ones comments.But i rarely make comments and never send in pictures or stories.,because you instantly become a target.Probobly by the ones who cant get it done......
