This year will be my first experience out west (live in WI) and the Broadus area we are going to be hunting. What will I expect for weather at the end of Oct? Also, what kind of country will I expect to hunt in? I am researching the web to get all the info but forums seem to be the most friendly and informative information one can find from fellow hunters. Sucessful or not it will be a great experience for me. Thanks for everyones help.

Most of the private land around Broadus is leased. You will have a VERY difficult time if you plan on knocking on some doors when you arrive and find a place to hunt. If you take a drive along the river in the afternoon you will be astounded by the number of deer, but again it will be leased private land. You will find some access on the national forrest but expect to leg it out to get away from the areas. Since Eastman has been hunting near Broadus and shooting videos I have noticed a few more out of staters trying to find a place to hunt there. The locals tell me there are more outfitters in the Broadus area than anywhere else in the State. You need to consider hunting a little later towards the rut. You will not have anyone tell you any honey holes on the websites, just general information. The area has river bottoms (all private) with breaks leading into forrest. No big ridges, mountains around just lots of country. There will be pressure on the National Forrest so don't expect to be alone.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-17-05 AT 09:41PM (MST)[p]3J,

Last year we hunted N. East Montana in tha sage and on Nov. 16th as we drove out after packing our buck to the truck the thermometer in my truck said 72 degree's!!
Now, in 1996 we hunted the same area my buck was freezing as we drug it to the truck. It was 10 below!! Those are the two extreems.
Usually in November I wear carhart fleese lined pants, carhaqrt hooded jacket. Long underwear and a windstopper fleese pulover from Cabelas. You want to be wind proof, it will beat you up by the end of the day. I also wear wool gloves with some light leather gloves over the top for crawling on the ground. If it gets too warm I leave the leather one on and stoe the wool. Again the leather is wind proof.

You need to watch the weather for a few weeks before you go, but take what you have even if you don't use it.

As I remember the aarea you will have open hill sides and some trees. Good optics are a must!!
