Wasatch Front Deer and Elk

I'm posting this on both the deer and elk forums because well, I have yet to fill either tag. I know that this subject comes up every year and for the most part I have never paid much attention to them. This year however is different. One thing I have never done is kill a decent buck (4X4) I would really like to accomplish that this year.
I am willing to go where most won't. I would really like to find a place that I can pack into a few miles set up a bivy/base camp for a night and hunt from there. If there is anyone willing to share some info on a couple areas that are far enough in that I will lose most other hunters and have a good chance at, at least seeing some deer please point me in the right direction. Not asking for anyone?s favorite spot , so please don't think I am.
I hunt solo most of the time. I enjoy that time of solitude but now and then I do enjoy company so if any of you want to go explore a new area together I'm game for that also.
You can P.M. me or send me an e-mail [email protected] Thanks to anyone that helps I appreciate it. Tim

Blacktimber I would give Alta a try. Was up there last weekend for a hike and seen some good fours. Ask the sherrifs office on the boundaries. If you go back towards Cardif Fork and follow the ridge line you should find something good. If you wait a little longer closer to the rut its much easier to hunt these muleys. If you have no luck in the next month I will go out with you in November and give you a hand.

Thanx, Dustin. Where is Cardiff Fork? All I can find on the map is Cardiff Mine.

ya i saw a gang of 7 coyotes right off the other side of cardiff pass,

im not sh$ttin you either, sat there all morning glassing, didnt see a dam thing, then they came out of there hole,

hmm no freakin wonder, i think its time for a snare over there

Black - Did you try some of your old stompin' grounds during the general bow? Hunington Lake area, SE? Is this a muzz & rifle question also? Just curious...

I didn't get out on the general archery for deer. I was trying to get an elk. Now it looks like I'm still hunting for both.

This is for archery.

Black Timber,

I bivied right by Cardiff Mine 2 weeks ago. We had patterned some deer in there and made a stalk on them. No 4 points but a nice 3x3. We got busted and they ran out of there. PM me if you want some more info.

Blacktimber, dont get to excited yet. There is alot of time left to hunt. November is your best chance of getting a quality buck. Once the rut starts and the snow hits, the hunt is a different game. The deer are more grouped up, and usually a big muley will have his nose jammed up a does rear end. If you tag out early, you will kick your self. I know this from experience. Hang in there.
