I came back to central washington for a few days last week. I had a few mornings to kill so I decided to buy a deer tag. I have a friend, who is a fishing guide, that had seen a bunch of deer along the upper yakima river. We decided to float the river and see if you could get me a deer. We floated the river three mornings. I had many opportunities but could not connect. I was borrowing my dad's bow since mine is in Alaska. Finally after missing a few shots I got my dads bow sighted in for me. THe morning that I was supposed to fly out, myself and two of my best friends floated one last time. Of course we weren't seeing the deer that we had the first two mornings. About three quarters of the way through the float we spotted a doe feeding along the river. We floated down to her. She just watched us like we were another flyfisherman. We got withing 15 yards of her and I took the shot. She went about a hundred yards and was dead. She may not have any head gear but the stories from those three days are the real trophies. I will post pics once I get them from my buddies.

Sometimes its easy to get caught up on spread and antler points. I'll give you guys one of the more creative hunting methods I've heard of in a long time. Congrats. Sounds like you've got the memories and those are the important things.

Just graduated from Central not to long ago and how i miss that part of the river. Awesome fishing, and tons of sheep and deer. Not bad to take a drive and see all that just 10 minutes from campus. Great job on the deer, love the way you got her.

Dude, I have been in a crunch sometimes and was happy as heck just to shoot a doe. It's can be about getting out and hunting with friends and family not about the kill. I love hunting and sometimes really don't mind if I get nothing at all. Just seeing a few from the stand can be enough. And 4 years is a long time to wait.

Congrats on your deer!!
