Neat looking buck. Looks a lot like what we call in Texas a "cactus buck". What that means is that for some reason, the bucks testicles were injured and destroyed. Without testosterone, the antlers start growing and never stop/never shed the velvet. It takes a surge of testosterone to shed the velvet and become hard horned. Would be curious to know if that is what this one is, or if he just has weird genetics.

That's a Freak alright. Dang, a once in a lifetime buck, but I agree, I'd have trouble pulling the trigger on that ugly thing.

Gross!! I'm guessing that he was shot broadside on the right hand side, and was probably commiting suicide at that. That is a very unique but UGLY deer. Scott/couesbitten

look somwhat simmular to the one my grandpa shot at the head of weelsville canyon in 1955 or somewhere in there i have the newspaper article but the buck was a morfadidte (spellilng?) both nuts and #####....verry unique i would shoot him over a 30 inch 4 point anyday i like the unique looking ones..

It would be interesting to have someone take the time to have some genetic testing done on one of these bucks and get a final answer on what causes this antler growth to happen.

Cool looking buck! I would've shot him in a heartbeat! Hope the hunter finds a good taxidermist who can preserve the velvet and make a great mount. That's a truly once-in-a-lifetime buck!

It's my understanding that as stated above it is a nut or lack there of problem. However, I have been told that a buck that has lukeimia (sp) will develope antlers like this.
