Just got back from WY and had an interesting expience. We were headed out to hunt opening morning and had a few rigs following us down the highway. All the sudden one guy just comes blowing around us (and we were already doing 80 MPH), whips back in front of us and then hits the brakes and we then fly back up on him. At that point we can now read the "Go Hunt Your Own State!" in big white shoe polish on the back window. On the bright side, least they didn't box us off the road and pull us out of our truck and give us a WY butt-kickin!

Out of stater's must really have a bad reputation in WY? I've never seen so many unfriendly, downright rude at times, people on any hunting trip. On the other hand, I also met some of the most absolutely nicest people ever on a hunting trip. Oh well, you can't please them all!

Just a word of advice for all us out of stater's, "It never hurts to be friendly, you never know when you might need a hand"!

Hope everybody's having a great season!!!

On the other hand it is people like that that give us Wyo people bad names as well, who cares if you are from out of state in my mind you should of stopped and gave him a "butt kicking" hope your trip went well otherwise.

Ever been to a football game up there in Laramie? TERRIBLE FANS!!!! And watch out for those WY-butt kickins, usually has more to do with the butt than the kickin!!! LMAO!

I take my tags off in camp to avoid vandalism......

The business owners and most Wyoming residents are very good people. I guess it only takes one.

I have a couple of friends that are attending the WyoTech School in Laramie. Everybody says that if you go to the school, don't wear any "WyoTech" Apparel cause you'll be treated like S%!* just cause they assume you're from somewhere else. Too bad...

Michael~All Gods creatures welcome... right next to the mashed potatoes and gravy.

actually, its not that the wyo tech kids are from somewhere else, its that they tend to come here and be assholes. they have a terrible reputation. obviously, not all of them are that way, but its a case of a few bad apples...

its too bad that some wyoming residents act the way you saw. in the area i hunt, the bulk of the out of state hunters tend to be more "serious" hunters than the locals. most of the locals just road hunt. when i run into someone in one of the deep nasty holes i hang out in-they are generally from out of state.

if i had to guess, the folks you ran into probably moved here less than 5 years ago.

What a bummer. I've experienced the exact opposite when hunting as a nonresi in WY. Everyone I met was very welcoming. Hope I don't run into the same clowns you did next week when I'm there.

Oh I don't take it personal and try not to make too many generalizations! I met several WY residents that were really nice and helpful to boot! One guy even offered to try to get us on a ranch for our moose, where his son had killed a deer the day before (that kind of blew me away).

I just found the whole thing interesting is all. And we did kill a couple nice bucks opening day. One in Medicine Butte and the other in Coyote Creek. The HMA thing is really a shocker. Nobody would get off the road in Medicine Butte and we never saw a soul in Coyote Creek. We killed a pretty 4X4 in Medicine and a 4X5 w/ eyeguards in Coyote nearly 29 inches wide. The odd thing is after scouting the entire unit, the deer were all in one spot in both HMAs and nobody was hunting them (I don't get it).

I tried to waive at everybody. Who knows, maybe a lot of those guys around there just lost their thumbs, pointer fingers, ring fingers and pinky fingers in farming accidents? They weren't actually flipping us off, it just looked like it. There were still more friendly ones anyways!

Anybody a moose buff in that SW corner? I have some specific questions I'd like to bounce off someone you lives with the moose down there if they'd be willing.

Thanks.

Guess there are a few bad apples in every barrel. Most of us wyomingites are pretty friendly. If there were no out of state hunters, I suppose we'd have better hunting for ourselves; but then the nonresidents finance the lion's share of Game and Fish's budget. Your welcome at my camp as long as you'll abide by the rules of the hunt and the forrest.

They treated us great when we were up there. Although I've heard it said that there are more Antelope in Wyo than there are people and they both like it that way.

The guys you ran into probably didn't get drawn for a limited tag and they were pissed that you might have. Shoot, even I feel a twinge when I don't get drawn for Elk down here and I see non-resident hunters. Nothing personal, just wish I was the one with the tag.

A-holes are A-holes where ever you go.

Of all the people I've ran into in Wyo, the nicest ones are the ones who've been there the longest.

Donnie

Not to worry, I still love you Wyoming guys! That was just a new one for me, that's all.

I was down around evanston with my cousins from salt lake, I was hunting deer and just jumped in with them to go check out a few spots, we got the finger alot because of the utah plates, I just had to laugh it off, after all I'm a local and have probably flung the bird out at a few out of state hunters myself. Like my hunting partner always says though, if you help out out of state hunters and treat them good, you just may have someone to help you out if you draw out in their state. Suprised that there was so little pressure over that way after the deer, everyone I know headed over there for the opening.

That's just plain rude and that guy deserves a good Wyoming a$$ kickin'. Doesn't he realize out of state hunters carry firearms?
Most a$$holes like that guy don't realize how much money comes into this state from non-resident hunters. Of course you could explain it to them and they still wouldn't understand. You probably didn't see the small sticker in his window that said he just graduated from the fourth grade.

For $hits and giggles you should have called the truck desrcription and plate number in and reported him drunk driving swerving all over the road and tried to run you down. Better yet you could have reported him poaching. Bet he wouldn't do it again.
It works for me when I call in all those non-resident hunters that are heading towards my hunting spot. LOL!!! Just kidding.

I welcome all non-resident hunters into my camp at any time.

We were starting to wonder if the fence was a coming! From the looks of it we were grossly outnumbered and I'm sure it would have gone bad from so many different angles!

But hey, I'm a hunter not a fighter anyways!

Can't we all just hug and be friends?!

I have hunted Wyoming 6 times and drew a tag another year and couldn't make it. Everyone has always been great to us. A friend of mine and his brother actually had a local motel owner put them on a pretty good bull a couple of years ago. The only thing negative that has ever happened is in 1993 on an Antelope hunt one of the Res. was complaining pretty loudly about not drawing a tag for any species because of the NR hunters. My only real problem is the local women always want to run up and kiss me right on the mouth. Soory that happened to you and your group.

I would have loved to have been with you when they pulled that. I have not seen any people like that in wyoming when I have visited but the day will come. I won't put up with there crap. Those who know me know I am a fiesty SOB. They would have gotten an ass whoopin or something along that line if I had been there. Its a joke they act like that but some are just butt hurt about everything. I guess being born hell I dont know?

The way to do it is to put the velcro on the inside of your boots...but you didn't here me say that.
