What is your hunting boot of choice for late Oct. hunting? What gram of thinsulate do you prefer in your boot and does it keep your feet warm enough? Do you prefer the boots with Gore-Tex liners overs those with just thinsulate insulation? I am just looking for a pair of boots that keep my feet dry and warm without being too heavy. So what is the good all around choice in your opinion? Thanks -CB-

Danners. On the insulation part it depends on how muck your going to be moving.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-07-05 AT 09:48PM (MST)[p]I just splurged and bought some Meindls at Cabelas because of so many recommendations in threads like this one. No question about it, they are it. 400 gms.

I bought the Lowa Sheep hunters from the recommendation of some guys off this site. Best boot I have ever owned, and I swear I have never had to break this boot in. 400 grams of insulation in these boots. I'd probably say 400-600 grams is sufficent for fall weather anywhere in western US.

I've got Danners,Rockys and Cabelas boots for all occasions ranging from waterproof to Gortex. Some for warm weather with no thinsulate and winter ones with 1000 grams. It's nice to have a big variety and my wife says I'm worse than a woman when it come to shoes. I ask her the same about her kitchen appliances.

not sure i could make a one boot recommendation for late oct. in the rockies. theres just too much possible variation in the weather.
it could be 70 and sunny. it could be -20. it could be right around freezing and lots of snow(read wet feet in anything but packs)i cant give my wife crap about shoes either. i own lots of boots, and i take several pairs to hunting camp. even multiple pairs of similar boots. i put on lots of miles, and a mid day boot change can make the feet feel fresh again-just a slightly different fit makes all the difference in the world.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-10-05 AT 08:57AM (MST)[p]I bought a pair of Irish Setters, I think I bought the snow trackers-1200 grams of insulate.
I don't wear them unless it is cold out-they definitely keep you warm and your feet don't sweat as much in them as others that I've had. Comfortable also. Plus I think they only cost me around $90-$100.
I would like to get another pair around 600 gram or so, the ones I have are almost too warm, but nice.

I have uninsulated Danner's and 800 gram Rocky's. I'll be bringing them both in 2 weeks when I head to the mountains.
I agree with others, I'm not sure there is one ideal boot for late Oct. in the mountains. If there was, I'd still bring two cuz one will for sure get wet, wear them on alternating days.
Good luck.
