Anybody hunting the Navajo Reservation this season?

Nope, I almost put in for the early archery hunt, but thought I might get an archery elk permit with the state, and I did. Probably will apply next year though. Good luck to all who have tags, let's see some pictures!

Yeah, a few years ago it was almost a sure bet that a person would get drawn for any hunt applied for, I haven't been drawn for two years "seasons" now. Must be getting more and more popular.

The wife and I got drawn in unit 3 for the last three yrs. We had good success. None of my brother or nephews got drawn this year. They were suprised...but non res. friends got drawn this year there first on the navajo rez. LOOKING FORWARD TO IT!!

I was drawn this year for archery hunt. Arrowed a young spike. took him in Unit 3 (rez). I only had a day and a half to hunt. So I took the first buck I saw. Took the shot at 30 yards, at about 6 that evening, it wasnt a good shot but enough to leave a good blood trail. Tracked him until dark, i heard coyotes in the same direction the trail was headed. So i stopped tracking and picked up the trail in the morning. The forestry service are doing some burning up there and I think thats what saved my buck from the coyotes. There was alot of smoke up there. Well he dropped not more than 75 yards from where i had left the trail the following evening. Good eatin'!

My brother was also drawn for archery, but he didnt fill his tag. Saw a lot though, mainly 4x4s, in the afternoon. And ALOT of TURKEYS! big turkeys at that!

We applied for the rifle hunt but were not drawn. But we got drawn for Rifle elk (rez)in January. STOOKED!

Also got picked for Navajo (unit3) rifle hunt in October. I was there for the early archery hunt as well and saw a lot nice young bucks. Could never get into position for the bucks i was after. It was fun . No monsters in September, but there are a few around. I'm looking forward to getting out there again. It is getting tougher to draw. I was in a little drought, but have got lucky this year. Please post your stories after the hunt. Good luck.
