Got back from WY this weekend after spending the first week of the season over there. Was Very lucky to have taken my Muley and my antelope with my Bow. First two archery animals.....what a rush it was.
Went there with the intentions of trying to shoot an antelope with my Matthews. If I wasn't able, then I'd just have to shoot one with the rifle instead. Had to pass up 5 different bucks the first day....one easlily P&Y, because the wind was absolutely howling and did not want to risk a shot more than 35 yds.
Second day, wind was still whippin' pretty good, but was able to get this guy at 18 yds.....what an awesome feeling!
So I had 3 days left to hunt Muleys. With a little convincing from some of the guys with us, I was "talked" into trying to shoot a deer with the bow too. Wasn't sure if I was up to the task, but figured what the heck I'll give it a day.
So, the third day I saw a lot of deer, and maybe 10 or so bucks but nothing I concidered a shooter.....even with the bow. I obviously knew I would have to lower my "shooter" standerds if I wanted to take one with the bow. I was suprised to find this guy had teamed up with 3 other bucks I was watching earlier in the morning, and I was able to arrow him at about 17 yds. Not my biggest buck....But absolutely one of, if not the most gratifying bucks I've ever shot. Just can't describe the feeling.
My dad was able to help me get him out of there and actually get a picture or two with him also....
That afternoon my dad was able to kill a 3x3 right at 27"....really a great buck, but unfortunately I was not with him and did not have the digital. I'll have to wait for an email from him.
On the 5th and last day we had one deer tag left to fill. The weather took a pretty dramatic turn as we know had a couple of inches of snow....perfect huntin' conditions. The last guy in our group was able to get this awesome buck 26" 3x4 at 2:00 on our last day.
With 3 good Muleys and 3 antelope it made for a great trip and easy drive back home to Western Washington.
