nice buck! good to see some heavy horns out there

It was a tougher hunt than I expected. After hearing about all the bucks people were seeing during the bow hunt, I thought I would see the same, wrong. I did see a few bucks bigger than this one, but I was not able to sneak in on them. As thick as some of the brush was, you just couldn't get close enough for a muzzleloader and still see them. The does would let you walk right by them, 10, 15 and 20 yards from them and they would just stand or lay there while I walked past them. Not the bucks, they know its them were after. Still my best buck with a muzzleloader and still room for something better next time.

Congrats on your buck! Did you see many elk while you were out there? Any bears?

Prism

Seen one good herd of elk right behind my camp, with one real good bull (I sent an elk hunter after him) and one bull that had a deformed left antler, but his right side was excellant. Also, seen a few other bulls, cows and calfs in almost every canyon I hiked into. Did not see any bear, but did see some tracks and scat. I've got 4 points for bear going into next years draw.

That's a really great deer, and to get him with a frontstuffer - good job!

A buddy of mine drew the book cliff smokepole tag this year also. Said it was real tough...didn't even see a buck he wanted to shoot. He said he seen a couple the first day that were close to the 26" variety and wishes now he would have popped one, but he was holding out for something bigger. Sure is funny how things differ from year to year.
