LAST EDITED ON Oct-14-05 AT 09:20PM (MST)[p]One awesome Colorado buck! Not sure of the "green" score, but it will need to have the velevet stripped for panel measuring to be considered for world record status. Time will tell.

Awesome buck, but I heard the hunter said he wouldn't strip the velvet no matter what. He said he didn't care if it made book or not, but that it was a better trophy to him with the velvet on. This led to a discussion of whether or not they should have a special category for velvet bucks? What do y'all think?

sure.........we could also have a special category for the length of their feet and ears....

That thing is a monster. There are rumors of one around the same size taken in Canada this year. I think Saskman posted a picture of it on here. They both "green score" somewhere around 275".

I for one think that there should be a special category for Velvet Bucks. I know its not all about "making book", but these guys and their deer deserve recognition. I think thatyou would have to be crazy to stip the velvet off of a gorgeous buck like that!

i agree, there needs to be a velvet category.
In fact, we ought to start a Monster muleys scoring system and then we can do what ever we want.

P&Y recognizes velvet bucks but notes them as such. Velvet antlers are just too difficult to get accurate measurements from, especially if you are trying to not disturb the velvet. Nontypicals are even more difficult.

Just to add to JB's comments. P&Y also does NOT rank velvet entries and they are not eligible for world record status. They appear in one published record book, but stored in the archieves all-time. (new CD)

I like the idea of ML starting it own scoring system. This way i could turn my 135 buck into a 200 class buck. Couple of points here, couple of points there......... :7

Dakotakid,
SCI does recognize velvet bucks but you have to deduct 2% off the total score for the velvet.
