My son has been very excited about his first year of deer hunting, we have seen some nice bucks this week and found a nice shed. I took him out last night and at about sundown spotted a nice 2 point. He decided to try for him since he hadn't been able to get a shot yet. He was shooting a little downhill at a little over 200 yards. At his first shot the buck ran uphill a ways and looked around, on the second he ran into a patch of maples and never came out so I set Blake up to watch and I went in after him. I kicked him up at about 20 yards and could tell he was wounded, he ran right past Blake who missed the 3rd shot, got a little excited. LOL Anyway the buck ran into the steepest canyon around and thats where we found him at about dark. It was a long steep drag to the top and then down to the truck, but it was sure fun to listen to him and be spending some excellant one on one time. It was also a very beautiful moonlit night.
This morning I went out and at daylight I missed a nice 4x4, around 26 inches and heavy, hit the rock in front of him. I hiked on around the canyon he ran into but only found a 2 point, so I went over the top and into a big bowl I like to hunt. I had watched 3 other bucks in it just after I shot at the bigger one, but hadn't got to where I could make sure I had missed him so I hadn't shot at them. I went around the ridge and got a running shot at a 3x4 and missed. I saw 4 bucks go into the trees and one was a tall 4point I had seen earlier so I ran through the tree and caught them going over the ridge, but only had a good shot at a smaller 4x4 so I took him. It was a 4 hour very rough drag back to the truck but is will be fun to remember. I am not the best at the picture thing, but if someone wants to post some for me I will email them.
