LAST EDITED ON Oct-17-05 AT 09:55AM (MST)[p]Anyone have a good formula for "guess-timating" the live weight of a dead deer. My buddy killed a buck this weekend that weighed in at 112 on the butchers hook. We always kinda guessed 40 lbs for guts and 40 lbs for hide and head / rack. Any other methods or ways to "ball park" a weight??

You'll need acrobat to view it.

there was a paper done quiet some time ago looking at wtd and chest measurement to determine weight. It was pretty good and fairly accurate as I recall. I have used it for mule deer and actually done something similar to what they did. If you added about 5-10% to the weights of the wtd to the mulies you ought to be within 10-20 lbs.
