Pray for snow tonight. Does anybody have any idea what the tempature on the north rim around jacob lake? Or the north rim Kiabab lodge is at this time 8:30 pm 10/17 ?

About 45 degrees. A little snow is expected. I plan on scouting/squirrel hunting this weekend. I will post the conditions.

I saw a couple of ?six Chuters? headed that way this a.m. I don't know exactly where they will concentrate the assault, but I suspect the old bucks will be just a little bit ?cagey,? after the air-raid.

Jim:

Where are the photos of your dad's Utah buck? You promised...

I heard Hubby is going to help out a guy from Kingman on his Strip hunt. Is Dale gonna be there with him?

I'm leaving Monday to do my pre-season work. When I get done, I'm coming home to pickup the new sled and then back to the Kaibab. Got a lady hunter form Oregon. If you see my camp you GOT TO STOP IN! I'll have my little sign out front..

Good luck buddy, let's get us some big 'uns this year!

Don

The snow level went down to like 8,500 feet north of Flagstaff Tuesday night. I'm sure the highest elevations of the Kaibab got snow. Hopefully some weather will come in the day before the hunt!

I'm sure that the Kaibab got a dusting. In years past, even a light snow gets the does, fawns and little bucks heading down the mountain.

Last year, they got BIG SNOW and the deer were all out on the winter range. That was a real plus for the folks on the early hunt.

IF the deer are still on top, then the hunt strategy changes big time..Hunting deer in the oaks and acacia is a heck of a lot different than hunting them in the burns on the winter range.

If you've got one of those 1,000 early tags, better pray for real SNOW if you're looking for a real buck! Otherwise, those yearling and two-year-old spikes, forkies and little three points will be taking an awful beating!

Good luck!

Don

Sent them to you, check your email. No, he isn't going with them. We're hunting southern region this week and then he's headed to NV to look for a big elk.

Billgoat I sent you a pm. Let me know if you received it. My computer dumped about the same time.

Deer are still high I see doe and bucks all day long. We had a dusting on Wednesday. Good luck shoot strait and don't waste you're money on a buffalo tag. I only see them twice a year, when they move off the mountain to calve and the day after they get shot at. They are ghosts and I know their pattern to the tee and only see them rarly

Any prediction for snow for the hunt that starts on Friday? Are the bucks still up high? What has the weather been like up there?

no snow in the forcast and hot maybee 50s for highs and 30sfor lows the deer are not much in the fields but i still see deer hanging up high

Had a buddy scout this weekend and the deer are scattered at all elevations. He saw two decent three points and does. Looks like it will be a tough as always to find the bigger bucks. Hope the temps stay cool, and some weather comes in.
