I just got two of the last Region F tags, its a spur of the moment trip, never been there. I am going to head to Cody and hunt from there. Is there any advice you guys can help me out with, I am looking to get my wife her first buck, its 4 point minimum, I have been told that anywhere you head out of Cody that there is deer what would you guys suggest, any pointers would be appreciated, I know WA. ID. and Or pretty well, would really like to learn a little about Wyoming. Thanks Bearhunter

Bearhunter,I have been hunting out of Cody for the past 6 years
in F.Hope for the cold weather. That will get the deer moving down and when that happens your gonna see deer in town as well as all over the hills. You can hit the walk-ins and the hunter management areas as well as the blm land around Cody and your gonna see deer.Dont just focus on Mulies the Whities are getting thick in this area as well.We are gonna be in town on the 29th or 30th and staying till the 10th.Good luck to ya
Some pics of success in the past, enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

Sweet bucks are all those public land deer, nice looking whitetail Id be tickled with one like that for the wife or even myself. Looks like you hunt down low, have you been up in the shoshone river drainages anywhere. Thanks

We do hunt low alot of the time due to it being easier for the older fellas to get around and still get some shooting in.Ive been all over the Cody area and up the shoshone south fork and northfork, as well as sunlight basin to the northwest.Your gonna see lots of deer all over. Its gonna take a few times running around Cody and outlying areas to find what you are looking for as far as a shooter but they are there and its just a matter of time.Get the walk-in maps from fish and game and dont overlook the little ones .Ive known guys to take pretty good bucks off the little walk-ins as well as the larger ones.Opportunity abounds in this area to see deer it just takes the right place and the right time to catch one of the love sick bucks to show up. Wish you the best of luck.

You will also have to take a drive up the North fork of the shoshone into wapiti and look at all the deer that come down onto the private hay fields. Some years its just thick with deer, youll spend an afternoon just gawking at all the bucks in one spot....

Sounds awesome I cant wait tell next Thursday, I appreciate the info good luck out there this year yourself.

Bearhunter, if you dont mind me askin where are ya heading out from?? Well looks like there will be more than a couple MM members lurking in the deer woods in F in a week or so Good luck to as well Shane.

Carter Mountain Hotel here we come. It will seem weird staying in a hotel for hunting. Everyone must because all the hotels filled up fast. Novemeber 3-10 is the time we will be there.Good Luck to everyone. I am praying for snow and cold temps but hopefully after our 16 hour drive.
Shane

Hey guys thanks for all the input, Ill be in a gray 01 Jeep Wrangler with Washington Plates, maybe well bump into eachother, Im leaving this Thursday through the following Friday, probably a little early but itll have to work, good luck to all. Thanks shep for the info Ill keep you posted. James

Shane, my buddys from Skagit county will be staying at the carter inn. Good luck. Is it true that there isnt many deer around until the migration starts?

JR,
I see your still at it. This is Garerite new handle same ugly guy. I missed going last year tried to get a 109 tag(top of my head guess)and didn't draw, back this year. I'm leaveing Saturday and stay for a week. Talked to a friend from Cody yesterday and he said the hunting sucked. The weather is still to warm and no snow and none perdicted!!OH well there is always the beer.
Has your son gotten a deer yet? Has he stsrted popping ducks? Oh last year I got a darn nice 4x4 out of D7 in the last week of the season. Hit the snow storm just right. The deer where running out of the park.
Hunting if tough for me this year, I fell at work and blew my knee out in early March. Had 1 operation and they fixed some stuff but couldn't save the knee, now I need a new knee. I get around but I look like Chester from gunsmoke. They did retire me early so I'm done and I started collecting my Carpenters pension and social security, selling the house hear and moving to Moscow Idaho.
Well good luck to you and your family.
Gary

Gary.Good to hear from ya it has been awhile. We just got back from Cody and this had to be the worst year we have had back there. We did kill bucks but not the caliber we were seeking. My boy didnt get to go this year but last year he killed a 4x7 blacktail and the year before he connected on 4x4 in Cody so he has started off pretty well.Sorry to hear about the knee but moving to Idaho sounds like a step in the right direction ,as far as getting outa Cali.Shoot me a PM if ya want to chat some more.Jeff
