Sawtooth Mule Deer

I was thinking about hunting deer up in the sawtooths around Stanley, I have been up there before and thought the area looked good. I am from Utah and I hunt primarily wilderness areas here.It looks like this area could suit my style of hunting, and I could maybe get away from the crowds. I am not looking for anyones secret spot, just wondering if there are good bucks up there that would be worth the effort. I am planning on doing my first out of state hunt next year, I am putting in for an area in Wyoming but I want to have a plan B in case we don't draw.

Thanks

Just got my first mulie in Stanley this year. It was my 3rd trip in 15 years so I'm a bit of a greenhorn. Passed up on a lot of forkies and took a small4x4 on the last day of my hunt. Didn't see any thing to brag about taken but have been some nice bucks shot there over the years. I don't think many people go up into the Sawtooths from the Stanley side to hunt but a few elk hunters stay at the base of the mountains in the thick timber. Used to be better up in the Frank Church before wolves but didn't see much deer sign near there. Rumors of 20 wolves in one drainage alone. Not to many roads so it's easy? to get away from the crowd if you hike a mile in and 2500ft up!

I concur with boomhand- I used to hunt the Frank Church too but it isn't what it used to be. Going the other direction from Stanley, this year's Valley Road fire wiped out a lot of country. I don't know what that will be like next year. A friend went somewhere near Stanley this year and said it was unbelievably crowded with lots of idiots. But, if you get far enough from the roads that problem would likely disappear.
